Gators 2023 Schedule

Just wanted to get some thoughts on Florida’s 2023 schedule . I don’t see Florida being favored in a game after Vandy on October 7th. Maybe versus Arkansas, but if the last game Florida wins is October 7 vs Vandy, does Napier survive?

Preemptive 0-12

In their current state, there's only 3 sure victories on that schedule, and Vandy could be a toss-up.

If we finally end the swamp losing streak, I see Florida winning 5 games this year.

Your being kind. Don't know what wheels fell off and why, but they are an absolute and extremely uncharacteristic dumpster fire. A 3 win season is very achievable in their current state. This is not your Uncle Rico's Gators.

That's a tough OOC schedul. Obviously GA didn't follow suit.
I agree. Going to Utah is a very tough task. To be fair to UGA though, Sankey made them cancel their game with Oklahoma. However, I feel like there had to be someone out there better than Ball State to schedule.

With the Utah game being the first UF out of state non-conference game in more than 30 years, will enough players/coaches/staff/fans find their way home afterward to continue the season?

West of the Mississippi River to boot.

No wonder their new AD is struggling.

Trying to become a national brand.

I don't have an answer to OP's question. But I do have an observation.

I would like to see UT have a permanent neutral site game. UF plays 6 home, 5 away, and 1 neutral. That is an advantage which improves records over the long haul. UT could argue we play an defacto home game every other year against Vandy. But UF gets one of their biggest and most important games as a neutral site game. That helps them.
We should be looking into that as well. Maybe Bama in Atlanta, or something.

History suggests UF playing UGA in Jacksonville hasn’t provided us with an advantage, unless the only history you’re looking at is from 1990-2010.

Pre Coach Spurrier UF isn't really worth noting. So, yeah my assessment would start 12/31/89.

The Oklahoma game was officially cancelled in mid September, 2022, so I doubt there were a lot of P5 teams with open dates left for Sept 9, 2023. Plus, Georgia wouldn't likely be interested in travelling to play low quality teams and higher quality teams weren't likely interested in adding another tough opponent at that late date. Paying some cupcake to come to Athens was the only realistic outcome.

Sucks that it was cancelled and might be for no reason. When was Georgia scheduled to go to Norman?

That Utah game is a doozy

They bring back almost everyone and want revenge...

Gonna do a number on Florida's confidence
As a Florida fan I’m trying to see this confidence you mention. Every time I mention the win/loss expectations for next season on a Florida site I get hammered. I’m sorry but it’s just not going to happen for Florida as long as Napier is head coach. Good man, good person and probably an outstanding administrator and advisor to new recruits. He is not however a good head coach.

Kirby's 1st season wasn't very impressive either. Lost to Florida, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Mississippi. Also, struggled with Nicholls State, Missouri, Kentucky, Auburn, ULL and TCU. Final record could've easily been much worse. First seasons are a bad time to hand down judgment.

The advantage probably wasn't the location. I heard that Spurrier got his bye week before uga every year and that coincided with gator dominance. When uga finally caught on and also got their bye week before the game, it evened out some.

Spurrier was also a much better coach than Goff and Donnan, and Urban was a better coach than Richt. Although even Ron Zook went 2-1 against Richt.

UGA is 8-4 against UF since 2011. That's Richt/Kirby going up against Muschamp/McElwain/Mullen/Napier. That series, like I would imagine most series between teams, ebbs and flows in line with who has the better coach.

That's a really good point. Coaching matters.

No they haven't and no we haven't. But we like to tell ourselves that we were better. Florida had better coaching and better talent.

This isn't the 2013 Vols vs. the 2013 Gators. It's Heupel's Tennessee vs. Napier's Florida. And Heupel's team doesn't give a rat's ass what happened in 2013.
That's your opinion, and your opinion is wrong.
