I find that very hard to believe. I bet you go out with your friends to your local bar/pub and get crazy drunk while watching whatever team u cheer for. A British man who likes American football more is kinda odd. No offense but that would be like an American who perfers cricket over baseball or football. Thats jmo. I don't know you so I could be dead wrong.
First, let me freely admit when a Vol-loving Brit came on here and asking why the UT didn't leave the SEC for another conference, I lit into the guy like sodium metal on water. A few VN patrons pointed out he was British and not well-informed about such things. So deserved an explanation in lieu of a condemnation. Fortunately, I had enough sense to listen to those guys and our Brit friend was gracious about it when I apologized.
Second, one of the reasons so much of the world finds Americans obnoxious, and I HATE saying it, rejoice when we have a misfortune, is due to our arrogant behavior. It ranges from from American athletes stealing stuff from museums during the Seoul Olympics years back, to the bullying other nations economically, militarily, via other means.
Third, the hatred toward our country isn't really hatred, it's disgust with the arrogance we exhibit. The world knows the USA has done a great deal of good on all levels. But TOO often, as individuals and collectively we don't behave a nation that claims, "In God We Trust."
Fourth, your post (and mine when I made the same arrogant mistake) simply emphasizes a reason for overseas folks to continue their disgust with what should be the grandest nation to ever arise in the history of mankind.
Feel free to condemn me in the worse possible terms as that is what is to be expected these days. Personally, I find it enlightening that a Brit enjoys American football. A shame too many Americans can't look beyond our own borders and see that other countries have entertaining sports as well. If we took the time to at least fundamentally understand the games, we might become fans of the sport and a team as well. Indeed, soccer is finally taking hold in the USA. I think rugby is making inroads too. Hopefully it will help break down some of the blatant and snot dripping arrogance in this country.
