Gay adoption as an option?

In Ohio we had two close friends who are lesbians. They took in two young boys in foster care because their mother enjoyed crack. The baby had a lop sided head because he never was out of his crib. He was at NCH in icu for months.

They cared for the boys for two years and completely turned their lives around. They applied for adoption then their birth mother decided she wanted them back. It was continued several times for the mother to complete drug rehab/testing and required parenting courses.

The children were given back to the birth mother.

Tough call

Oh, the things I believed when I believed...

So your opinion has evolved? Are you OK with gay adoption now?

I do second guess my initial opinion only because I wonder whether a 'stable' gay couple raising a child is better than having a child bounce from foster home to foster home.

I would not say that my opinion has evolved; I would say that my opinions I held in 2006 have largely been discarded.

Not going to get into the gay adoption mess.

What she should be talking about is the expense and hassle of adoption. Friends of ours spent several thousand $$ and waited years until they got fed up and went outside the country to adopt. They said it was just too difficult of a process here in the states.

IMHO adoption should be free and abortion should cost the big bucks.

He's just being honest. I read stuff on here all the time that I posted 5 years ago and wonder who the heck that was.

funny thing is I can track what was happening in my life with some of my posts. However I am glad VN didn't exist when I was 16-20. Not sure I would have lasted long :)

I will say though that sometimes it takes putting your views out in the open (even anonymously) to really figure out what you believe.

The most important thing is that the child be raised in a safe, nurturing environment and be provided with all the opportunities to grow and become an educated, well-rounded adult. Sometimes, it's with a grandmother. Maybe an aunt and uncle. A lot of foster parents are great parents. Even gay couples are capable of providing such an environment. My wife and I have gay friends and relatives that we would leave both of our girls with well before many so-called Christian couples that we also know.

Wow, what happened?

I realized that all my religious "beliefs" were entirely baseless, as I have never had any revelation and granting credibility to those who tell and those who live their lives based upon ghost stories is absurd.

There is; I think there are a lot of great moral stories and allegories in the Bible, they just take deep personal reflection to realize what it is that is being said. I do not believe that any part of the Bible ought to be taken literally and with no reflection on the symbolism. I also think that everything written by Saul is garbage.

I'm not far from where you are. And I'm Southern Baptist.

As a passionate pro-lifer, I've got to say that I support any kind of adoption. As long as the parents check out as a safe option for the child, I don't care who they are.
