I feel a little confused for the view I have on this issue, so help me out. I am very comfortable around couples who choose to have same sex relationships. I also dont care if they were born that way or woke up one day and said, hey I am very attracted to this person. Why do people get so hung up on wether they were born this way or not, if it makes them happy to be with a certain person who am I to judge them, as long as they are not hurting anyone, so be it, I will wish them luck.

When it comes to a gay marriage I feel a little different. I feel like it should be a man and a woman and not a same sex couple. I know times change and laws should adapt accordingly but this is one tradition I believe should remain stable. I struggle with this because I have no ill feelings toward same sex couples and dont know why I feel like I do on this isssue. I may be a lesbian trapped in a mans body:) . I am very open to everyones thoughts on this matter.

Seriously though, again, touchy subject. The morale issues can be discussed from here until next week. Personally don't care, life is complicated enough. Don't necessarily agree but this is a free country, sometimes...

Think they main reason is ecomonical. Married couples share tax and medical benefits that single folks don't. There is tax dollars for the gov't and revenue for the insurance companies that will be lost.

This country is based on "Christian" values. Have any of you actually read some of the State Constitutions??? They have plenty of references to God. The federal government is not responsible for this matter, the state's are. I think if you want to be gay and be married then move to a state that already has it. Don't complain or try to change another state because you don't want to leave. Maybe one of these days we will have a country based on morals again, but I doubt it.

Being gay is not a moral issue.

Easy solution: don't let the government deal with marriage in any way. Let whatever Church, Mosque, Synagogue, Temple, Community Organization, etc. provide the ceremony to their members who want to make a commitment to each other.

Nice in theory but the government is essentially the people. If the people choose to have the government sanction a social institution then so be it.

It is the conferring of rights/obligations by the government associated with the social institution where much of the problem seems to lie.

Fair enough. But will you have a problem with a religion that marries men to 10 year old girls? Or would laws already on the books regarding sex with minors handle this?

It may not be a moral issue to you, but it is against nature. That's something you can't argue.

That is actually the biggest argument in the whole thing, whether you're born or choose to be gay. If you are on the side that it's a choice then your views are pretty set. If you think it is something people are born with then it becomes a little tougher to discriminate.

You are taking this on an extreme tangent. I am talking about adults who make an acknowledeged and informed consent. No 10 year old can do that.

It is a serious question. You don't think some religion would ever test an idea like this? Take a look into the Irish Travelers in South Carolina or "gypsies" as some people call them. It was your idea I was buidling off of, don't discard my question because you don't like the question. Some religions may feel a 10 year old can make that decision.

How do they know who is or who isn't born gay?? You aren't born gay, you don't know what the heck gay is. It is wrong, against nature, and God himself destoyed two cities partly for this very thing. Your surroundings, who you are around, what you watch, your interests, and morals all dictate what you will become. You choose everything in this life you do, including your sexual preference. Saying someone is born gay is like saying you know when you are born you will drive off a cliff and kill yourself someday.

I am against gay marriage. But I disagree that someone can't be born gay. A person can be born dyslexic (sp?), so I imagine a person could be born that reads sexuality incorrectly, or differently to keep from offending gay people.
