Gene Keady, regarding Cuonzo Martin

Patience is not a behavior practiced well in these parts. Just sayin. You know who you are.

Patience is earned with a proven level of experience building programs and demonstrated progress on and off the court or the field at one's current program.

Cuanzo Martin built Missouri State and he's making progress with Tennessee basketball. There is no whining. There is no claim that a bad defeat signals a floor where an actual rebuilding process can now begin. He exudes hard work and a winning attitude and demands the same mentality from his players.

I'd love to see his level of leadership and expectation applied to other areas of our Athletic Department.

:good!: Solid words from G Keady on coach Zo. I think that the basketball program is in good hands at the moment. We just need to be patient and let coach Zo build the program. I see some positive things starting to happen. :pepper:

The coach we had advanced just as far in the NCAA tournament as Keady and it didn't take him 25 years to do it. If Keady was such a great coach why did Purdue let him get away. LMAO
You're really in a minority if you don't at least respect the name Keady in college basketball.

Cuanzo was a leader as a player but his coaching record at Missouri State was spotty though. Before I'm labeled a negavol, I'm on the fence about Martin, like most fans. I need to see more before I'm ready to tell everyone what a great coach UT hired.

I'm cuckoo about Cuonzo, but I understand people who are still in a wait and see mode.
Ones I don't get are those not willing to give him a chance and dogging after every loss.

I was talking about the "shoddy record" quote, which I don't get. He had a pretty good record at Mo State.

That's mostly about not getting to the NCAA. that's more about their conference only getting one in.
And a lot of folks don't know that in his first season, his team was riddled with injuries.
Never had the same starting 5 for any consecutive game.
Just thought I'd throw that in.

May have mis-read that. Went back and found the link on wiki. Kind of confusing.

"They wrapped up the pre-conference season with a 7–4 record. Martin's Bears headed into conference play with only 3 players appearing in every game, due to a number of injuries. They lost their first conference game in overtime against an undefeated Illinois State. His Bears finished the season with an 11–20 record."

You paraphrase.
