Gentlemen, This Game Can Be a Program Changer

MAJOR win. IMO, since Pearl....

1.) Memphis (#1)
2.) Pitt
3.) Kansas (#1)
4.) Florida (the Bradshaw tip in)
5a.) Kentucky (when Lofton caught fire at Rupp)
5b.) Texas sweep :)

A win against Duke would go straight to the top. And I want this one even worse than the UNC NIT match.

Got news for you Hulk a lot of people hate Tennessee too, especially Memphis and Belmont fans who sold out their share of tickets in Maui. Duke doesn't have any of their rivals playing in this tournament that really hate them, there is no UK, UCONN or ACC/Big East school. Memphis wants a rematch against Duke, they will be likely rooting for Duke. Everybody else, they are definitely going against Duke, with the possible exception of Belmont. I think a lot of people want to see a Duke-Memphis 2nd round game, so don't be surprised if many are rooting against Tennessee.

Pretty sad us and Michigan, didn't sell out our share of tickets in Maui. The fans of the two most powerful football programs in the group have different priorities. I'm actually more pumped to get revenge against Michigan than I am to beat Duke, because I think we have a legitimate shot against UM this year.

Absolutely agree with this, never said it wouldn't be. But a win over a 6th ranked Duke team (which Lawvol said was over ranked in another thread) on a neutral court, does not equate to beating a number 1 team on their home court, especially when that win propelled us to number 1 for the first time in the school's history. It's laughable to think other wise.

Yes, it does. Our program was at Its height then. It is in a state of uncertainty now. A win over the best program in the country over the last 30 years would just as big a win as the Memphis win.

6.) John Wall Kentucky team?

They were basically #1 because Kansas had lost earlier in the day and Uk was ranked #2

I gotta think Kansas was the biggest win after all that took place just before the game.

A game i would definitely add was beating evan turner and Ohio St. to reach the elite eight. Could've been the biggest win in UT Men's Bball history.

We respectfully disagree, or at least I disagree respectfully. Hope you do as well. There's only one thing IMO that super cedes being ranked #1 in the nation during the season, and that is winning it all at the final four. Today would be a big win for the program in many ways as I said earlier, we just disagree on the magnitude compared to some others. GO VOLS

That was the biggest win without question. I was referring to regular season non-conference games.

If Tennessee could somehow win, this would be as good a non-conference win since #1 vs #2 matchup with Memphis. It would instill some major confidence from the fans in Martin and his staff. And finally, it would absolutely give us more to sell to recruits. Make no mistake about it, guys; a win in this game would be absolutely huge.

We likely had a better chance of beating LSU and Alabama in back to back weeks in football this year. No doubt it would be all you indicated, but if we stay within 10 most of the game that would be a victory for this group. Badly out manned for this one. When's the last time the next to last team in the SEC beat one of the top two teams in the ACC on a neutral court? Exactly, has never happened and won't happen tonight.

I am just hoping we play hard and continue to show improvement. I am expecting our fg shooting to drop significantly this afternoon. Of course I hope I am wrong, but I would be shocked if we play them close.

Belmont isn't in maui man. I agree though because you got to think duke will travel well and memphis fans certainly won't be on our side.

I have absolutely no problem with that.

Fair enough. I would have kansas number 1 but other than that i'm on board. I believe a win vs duke would do wonders for CCM and this team this year. Hope we can keep up with them and give ourselves a chance in the end.

First, we're not as bad as the worst teams in the conference. Not even close based on what some of the teams are doing. We absolutely have a better chance of winning this than we did against Bama or lsu with a backup quarterback.

I agree with you. Just don't try to use logic on LV it is way above his head.

Would be huge.

It would do more IMO for the program.

I know there was a lot of hype for the Memphis game, but Pearl already had the program rolling. This would bring back a lot of fans to TBA, help unite the fan base behind Coach Martin, and give our team a ton of confidence.

:crossfingers:

If Belmont can lose to them by 1, then they're beatable

I didn't miss anything there genius. You said it would be as good a win, and it wouldn't even come close.

Actually, Einstein, it would be better than the Memphis win. We were loaded with talent that season and ranked #2. This year we are coming off an all world collapse and coaching change, plus we aren't anywhere on the radar of rankings. The Texas win in 2005 was bigger than the Memphis win.

Yep, beating Texas was bigger than beating Memphis at the forum and elevating us to #1 in the country, for the first and only time in the history of Tennessee basketball :eek:lol: Hope your mother doesn't allow you to play with knives :eek:lol:

You're still not grasping my point and the other poster's point. I agree with you that Memphis was a more hyped and more watched game. That's not the point.

I've been watching UT basketball long before your parents thought of you, junior. It's obvious you don't have the proper perspective or understanding of the situation. It's ok. You're WAY out of your league here
