George Floyd Protest/Riots

NPR? Really? That conservative rag?

(Blue font)

A new peer-reviewed study of fatal police shootings says that white officers are not more likely to shoot and kill minority suspects. Critics contend it doesn't address racial disparities by police.

I bet NPR is not rerunning this story now as that one was from last summer. Cancel culture

Banning choke holds is pure silliness from politicians who know absolutely nothing about physical confrontation.

If choke holds were encouraged and properly taught to law enforcement, you would have less shootings and subsequently less deaths.

It is not difficult to choke someone unconscious and more importantly it is not dangerous assuming proper training.

UFC will probably ban white guys from using them against certain opponents.

So cutting hundreds of millions of dollars from police budgets is the way for training and reform?

Gotcha.
It’s so stupid that I cannot believe people say it.
Cut the budget and the first thing to go is training.

Do we really want a police force with less training?

Apparently, Not all BLACK LIVES MATTER ....... Some random black man just gets his sexual goodies done & then goes ahead anyway & kills a young 19 yo black girl & will toss her to the curb like she was trash and go about his daily black life w/no concern about what just happened. Black lives matter to other blacks is a total lie.

Interesting points, including some brought up here

These six facts are as follows:

  1. George Floyd was experiencing cardiopulmonary and psychological distress minutes before he was placed on the ground, let alone had a knee to his neck.
  2. The Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) allows the use of neck restraint on suspects who actively resist arrest, and George Floyd actively resisted arrest on two occasions, including immediately prior to neck restraint being used.
  3. The officers were recorded on their body cams assessing George Floyd as suffering from “excited delirium syndrome” (ExDS), a condition which the MPD considers an extreme threat to both the officers and the suspect. A white paper used by the MPD acknowledges that ExDS suspects may die irrespective of force involved. The officers’ response to this situation was in line with MPD guidelines for ExDS.
  4. Restraining the suspect on his or her abdomen (prone restraint) is a common tactic in ExDS situations, and the white paper used by the MPD instructs the officers to control the suspect until paramedics arrive.
  5. Floyd’s autopsy revealed a potentially lethal concoction of drugs — not just a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl, but also methamphetamine. Together with his history of drug abuse and two serious heart conditions, Floyd’s condition was exceptionally and unusually fragile.
  6. Chauvin’s neck restraint is unlikely to have exerted a dangerous amount of force to Floyd’s neck. Floyd is shown on video able to lift his head and neck, and a robust study on double-knee restraints showed a median force exertion of approximately approximately 105lbs.
Let’s be clear: the actions of Chauvin and the other officers were absolutely wrong. But they were also in line with MPD rules and procedures for the condition which they determined was George Floyd was suffering from. An act that would normally be considered a clear and heinous abuse of force, such as a knee-to-neck restraint on a suspect suffering from pulmonary distress, can be legitimatized if there are overriding concerns not known to bystanders but known to the officers. In the case of George Floyd, the overriding concern was that he was suffering from ExDS, given a number of relevant facts known to the officers. This was not known to the bystanders, who only saw a man with pulmonary distress pinned down with a knee on his neck. While the officers may still be found guilty of manslaughter, the probability of a guilty verdict for the murder charge is low, and the public should be aware of this well in advance of the verdict.

FBI nabbed accused cop car arsonist by tracing her T-shirt to Etsy

This probe was entirely bespoke.

Federal investigators in Philadelphia used the shopping site Etsy and a host of social media platforms, including Instagram and Vimeo, to nab a massage therapist accused of torching a cop car, according to a federal complaint.

The suspect, 33-year-old Lore-Elisabeth Blumenthal, was identified by FBI agents who examined footage of the George Floyd protest and noticed her distinct forearm tattoo and a political T-shirt she was wearing when she allegedly set the police cruiser ablaze.

The T-shirt — which had the phrase “Keep the Immigrants Deport the Racists” emblazoned on it — led investigators to an Etsy page that was selling the custom-made shirts.

The investigators noticed a review on the page written by a username they later determined was linked to someone named Lore-Elisabeth in Philadelphia, according to the complaint.

They then searched the name on LinkedIn, which turned up a hit for a woman employed as a massage therapist in the city. On the company’s website, videos show a woman giving massages with a peace-sign forearm tattoo that matched Blumenthal’s.

The website listed a phone number for Blumenthal, which federal authorities used to track down her address in the Germantown section of the city.

She was arrested Tuesday and ordered held without bail until her trial, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

The DA will probably NOT prosecute ...... they'll let her walk. Her slate will be clean as a new car's smell.

Apparently they are issuing warrants against the Atlanta police officer that killed that thug in self defense.

Every officer in Atlanta should walk off the job!

Wow. Some scary precedents are being set. Police might as well just let go of any black person putting up any resistance at this point. Just let them run because if you're attacked, no matter your next action you are at fault. Doesn't matter what crime they've committed either because the media and liberal DA's will paint you as the bad guy. If I was a Chief or Sheriff in an urban area, I'd pull patrols from every primarily black neighborhood. The community doesn't want you there.
