Georgia is Ole Miss 2.0...

Everyone knows that Georgia has always recruited well. But 16 5-star recruits in just 3 recruiting cycles? I mean, that’s incredible if they actually did it the honest way.

Makes Dabo, Meyer and anyone not named Saban look slow and old on the crootin’ trail at this point.

Getting Georgia to an SEC Championship, and the CFBCG in his second year as a head coach, is a really good selling point on the recruiting trail.

I’m not whining. 😅.

There has been like 5-8 classes in this century of the caliber that UGA is putting together back-to-back now. I don’t think anyone expects Tennessee to suddenly grab 8 five stars out of thin air in our coaches first year. It was just conversation. LOL. As in, with 4 5-Star Runnig backs, how is Smart selling playing time to them? “Yeah. You’ll sit on the bench for 2-3 years, but you’ll get your shot in 2021”. Seems like a hard bargain to sell a hungry 18 yr old.

My bad. Didn’t mean to post a football post on a football website. o_O
The last 2 first and second string UGA runningbacks were drafted. Gurley and Marshall then Chubb and Michel. Even last year UGA had 2 1000+ yard rushers, Swift with 700+ and 2 more backs with at least 50 carries. There’s plenty of carries to go around the way they run the ball. The reason UGA is recruiting lights out is a combination of success, in state talent, and UT, UF, FSU, and LSU (not to the extent of the others) being down. The stars aligned perfectly for UGA to go on a recruiting run. Pruitt has the prowess to slow it down, not sure about Mullen though.

this. The last 2 years Clemson was the "hot" team but they didnt pull a recruiting haul like this one.

Ever been to Clemson SC? Anderson SC? If you have been, then you'd know why it's easier to recruit Athens. Murfreesboro would be easier to recruit to than Clemson.

Not much of SC I have visited that made me want to return. Ironically enough, as much a vol hater as I am, I really like Tennessee. My sales territory is basically everything east of 24 and I enjoy the he77 out of it....Knoxville is great....good restaurants, mostly clean, traffic is tolerable, people are nice, same said of Johnson City, Sevierville, etc....I have great customers in Farragut/West Knox. Its a pretty state

Stat of the day which bolsters the “something just ain’t right” narrative regarding UGA’s recruiting:

In Urban Meyer’s first 3 years at Florida, he signed 9 5 star recruits. In Saban’s first 3 years at Bama, he signed 7 5 star recruits. In Meyer’s first 3 years at OSU, he signed 6 5 star recruits. In Kirby's first 3 years at UGA, he has signed 18 5 stars.

Ole Miss 2.0.

It's pretty obvious the situation was different at the 3 schools. Did either of the other 2 coaches go to the playoffs and National Championship in their second year? Were any of the other schools the only main school in one of the most talent rich states? What condition was the main competition in at the time? The fact that you try to compare UGA, who always recruits well, to Ole Miss, who never had a top 10 class before, just shows your sour grapes. If you're scared, you're scared. Sorry Mullen is a trash recruiter, but Florida 3*'s tend to work out well so maybe he has a chance.
Quick edit, didn't Bama win 6 recruiting titles in a row? That's not strange, but UGA getting 1 the year the state is loaded and they go to the ship is? Jacksonville really did a number on the gators this year.

They Choked, It all went down hill after the dropped interception. They could not put their foot on Bama's throat when they had the chance. To make matters worse a Freshman QB comes in as a desperate move to spark the team and it worked.

To be fair, game was over if they didn’t call Simmons offsides on the blocked punt. Up 14 in the 3rd with the ball on the 10 yd line, at the least that call changed momentum.

Or at least that’s what I’m personally starting to think anyways.

Another 5 Star commitment today from Louisiana and I can’t help but think there is some money changing hands down there in Athens.

Maybe Kirby Smart is just the best recruiter in college football history, but I just remember seeing this same type of situation when Pastor Freeze was raking in 5 stars hand over fist down at Ole Miss.
Pulled a 5 star RB. They’ve never done that. The following were at least 5 star on one site.
Zamir White-
Deandre Swift-
James Cook-
Nick Chubb-
Sony Michel-
Elijah Holyfield-
Keith Marshall-

Pre Kirby, Marshall, Gurley, Chubb, Michel were on the same team and Gurley was the least ranked.

Owner of 247-Kirby gets who Kirby wants, said this while he was at Alabama

Simmons-Kirby was the main recruiter for Saban for the elite guys, he’s pulled most of the 5 stars for Alabama

Saban-smart landed at the number one job in America (recruiting wise)

Everyone knew Kirby was one of the best in the business at recruiting, this doesn’t surprise anyone that actually follows recruiting. Everyone always said UGA was a sleeping giant with the talent.

Even my rationale on Kirby when he was hired, I Knew he would recruit, didn’t know if he could coach (CEO coach) but I knew at minimum he would leave the cupboard full if he couldn’t coach.

I’m saying the same for Pruitt, I KNOW he can recruit, can he coach (CEO coach), that’s TBD but I promise the cupboard will be full at UT even if he can’t coach and the next guy is locked and loaded.

I live fairly close to Clemson, love the campus. Anderson is okay, everyone from church goes there to shop. I'm actually a tad closer to Athens, and it sucks as well 😁

Smart has proven he can coach. He got to the NC in year 2. Yes UGA is paying players just like we are. Difference is UGA is paying and winning while we have been paying and losing.

If we are both paying, they must have better bagmen with fuller bags.

A good selling point is that in a program like that, you only need that one year to prove yourself, and when the NFL comes calling you are healthy and ready to go, and have some life left in you. And most of your comp is going to drafted and gone, or injured and gone.

I don't think Kirby's another Saban, there will probably never be another one like Saban. With that said, I don't think it's fair to say Kirby "choked" this past year. Alabama had more talent than UGA, especially along the lines of scrimmage, UGA got a lead with good coaching but talent won out in the end. If that game has gone another quarter Bama would have been up by 2 touchdowns.

Before everybody crowns Smart as the next Saban, he got to that NC game using Richt's players. His coaching could be somehwta suspect in that he was 1-1 against Butch Jones again with Richt's players which he took to a NC game. UGA lost 31 to graduation end of last season. Let's see how he does when his own kids show up for SEC play with him leading them.

I agree last year was mostly Richt's players minus Fromm and that freshman running back and that Smart still has a lot to prove, but that 31 figure unfortunately includes walk-ons, it was like 19 scholarship players that either graduated or went pro, which isn't that unusual of a number.

just a FWIW moment on who had whose players....about half of both the defense and offense were recruited by CKS to UGA....the other half were recruited and held offers to Bama, and were recruited by Kirby. Just like the kids at UT, UF, Barn etc....nearly all of the premier players on any given SEC team were at the minimum carrying offers from half the conference. My kid played in the Southern Conference 02-04 and when he was recruited he had offers from nearly every school. These coaches know who all of these kids are and where they are...Pick a kid and go look at his 247 board and I bet you will see them toting around a ton of offers.
