Georgia O-Line

JC - It sure does ... Is there a way to send messages in volnation? I was in Hotel Co. You?

Grew up a Georgia fan and remain so today. Most everyone else at El Cid were either Clemson or SC ... This Vol team can most certainly beat Georgia. They are improving every week. Having started so many freshman to being the season ... those players now have four games starting experience. 9 out of 10 times this game goes to the wire.

not sure...I'm new in here. I was in A Co the whole time...grew up in NC where bball was king so didn't really have a football team until I was at Campbell surrounded by VOL fans and became one. Small world. Want to see UT play hard and limit the mistakes...could get very interesting.

Know all about the basketball. Wife went to St. Mary's College in Raleigh. She hated basketball season ... she said that if you went on a date during BB season it was to a game. She now loves every sport except basketball.

It was sarcasm. Guess they don't have that in GA. Welcome to our board. Little fella, funny. Prove you are not a troll after the game. Just a homer at the moment, aren't we all..

Been here loooooong before this week and if that's just "sarcasm" you need lessons. All it really was was a snide remark.

Honestly, I have seen twice as many annoying Dawg fans on this site than Alabama and Florida.

When you speak with such certainty about GA and Gurley imposing their will...how do you expect one to respond? Especially, on the opposing teams board. Just because you have been here a "loooooong time" means not that much. We have some here that have been here a while and have the Troll in them. Just because you don't do it all the time doesn't mean you are not one. Now, continue to impress us with your knowledge. SOOO GLAD U R HERE!

Gurley is a very good football player... calling him a "generational player" at this point is going too far. Homerism.

Here is what Coach Jones thinks.

Jones said “Todd Gurley is a great, great—and I say GREAT—football player”. He also added that “Gurley is one of the best I’ve seen in a very long time”.

He IS a great RB. He IS one of the best the SEC has had recently.

No one said any different. You just want to get ahead of history and crown him well before it is justified.

I see what you mean. Just was not thinking in that direction .... Don't know about the play selection by down but we are running about 2/3 of the time. And with a 7.7 yard per rush average don't see us changing that much.
That... and with Richt as HC... I don't either. So UT knows what is coming and have had two weeks to get ready for it. They have very good LB's and a smallish but quick DL. They get their best run stopping DT back from injury for this game. They have one of the best cover CB's UGA will face this year which could allow UT to get creative with run D packages.

BTW, you run the ball almost 70% of the time on 1st and also 2nd down.

I think we get our yards and points especially playing in Athens. You will beat us by exploiting our glaring weakness in the secondary.
I think UT has an opportunity against your secondary but that could open up the run game more like it did in your USCe game.

I come far short of predicting a UT win. Frankly, UGA is the most talented team in the East and one of the 3 most talented teams in the SEC IMO. It is hard to predict a win against that.

I don't want to seek biased, but I truly believe AJ Johnson is the best defender UGA has played up to this point and that Cameron Sutton is the best defensive back they've played up to this point.

Gurley will have several 10+ yard runs. It's undeniable. But if we can prevent those 10+ from turning into 50+ yard touchdowns, then I think we're in good shape.

My biggest nightmare is envisioning scenarios in which Gurley will make it to the second level, and that one of our safeties will get beat bad on a missed tackle and result in an easy touchdown.

Sutton is a quality corner back who can hold his own on man to man coverage. But I'm not sure I trust the other defensive backs with my heart. Not saying they are bad, but mistakes can happen. But the only way of truly limiting their run game is by stacking the box and going man to man defensively. So crossing my fingers we make no big mistakes in the secondary.

I agree. I believe we will definitely be the best defense they have faced and we are absolutely geared towards their style of play. That said few do their style of pounding the ball better. It will be an awesome matchup. The questions are all on their D and our O.

You're awful sensitive for an opposing fan on our board...maybe we should set up a forum for butthurt trolls. :cray:

I never make predictions ... especially against SEC competition or Tennessee for that matter. I see Tennessee's young players improving and Georgia having some key weaknesses than can be exploited. I will be a much closer game than most predict. I do not see a blowout by any means.

Hell Hotel.

IMHO, no team in the SEC this year lacks a weakness that can be exploited. Bama is probably the closest but they really haven't looked on par with their recent championship teams to date. They don't look "Bama" on D... at least not yet.

I don't think a blowout is likely but this series has seen blowouts on both sides when the teams appeared to be evenly matched.

And I can respect that. My only point is that with the recruiting Free Seafood U has done over the last 5 years or so, they are hardly a one man show.

I agree, however with the play I've seen from Jameis, I do think he takes them to a level above what they're able to do without him. Jameis "The Crab Leg Kid" Winston is an amazing, albeit stupid player.

Not trying to be argumentative, I'm legitimately being sincere when I say this, what is your avg YPC minus the Troy game versus defenses with a pulse? You guys wrecked a terrible Troy team, so I'm interested to see what the stat versus Clemson and USC was so after the game I can compare our defense to those two.

They avg'd 6.9 ypc vs those two- 8 ypc vs CU and 5.71 ypc vs USCe

Clemson
Gurley - 15-198 yards, 100 yd. KO return
Chubb - 4-70 yards
marshall - 6-8 yards
Michel - 6-33 yards
Hicks - 2-14 yards
McKenzie - 1-9 yards

USC

Gurley - 20-131 yards (54 yard run called back)
Chubb - 4-34 yards
hicks - 3 - 30 yards
Michel - 4-18 yards
McKenzie - 1-8 yards
Marshall - 1-2 yards

Not too hard to believe. Georgia averaged 453 yards/game and 41.5 points/game for those two games.

And the key is to make them have to throw more than they want to. As bad as our O line is there's nothing about UGA's D that's great. To reference Clemson & USCjr again, their offenses had their way with Georgia for the most part (minus 2nd half Clemson gm).

That is one way to beat us by making Mason throw more, but will be tough. I think the way for the Vols to win this game is to adopt Spurrier's offensive game plan and attack the blaring weakness of our D ... right between the LBs and DBs.

In order to not get beat deep our DBs have to give more cushion to the WRs. Once the receiver breaks past the LBs we don't have the depth of players that can make up the ground ... easy 10-12 years ... more with YAC.

Can't wait until tomorrow. This is always a good game.
