Georgia OL coach Matt Luke stepping away from coaching

I’ve mentioned this in other threads, but I think the quality of day to day life is not where it needs to be with the current state of college football. I think there needs to be a major restructuring of the rules when it comes to recruiting, the portal, etc …I get that the money is great, but I can see the constant pressures of the non X’s and O’s aspects of coaching college ball pushing more good coaches out of coaching or to the NFL.

Totally agree with this. Imagine running a business where your top employees are primarily paid by outside boosters who are only loosely affiliated with your organization all while NCAA compliance looks over your shoulder and fans trash your every decision.

I think many college coaches will pursue the relatively sane structure of the NFL.

Not only fans, but also the aforementioned boosters who have influence in the program. If I was a coach, I'd probably be OK at not sweating what the fans thought, and honestly fans aren't critical about anything if you're winning enough. However, the boosters are another deal. Even if you're winning, you still have some of them that stick their nose in and try and tell you what to do. It takes a Saban-level of winning to get them to totally shut up.

Look at what they did to Coach O. He has one below-expectation season in a pandemic year the year after winning a national title with one of the greatest offenses of all time, he was instantaneously on the hot seat, then fired in the middle of the next season. Personality wise the man is the embodiment of LSU and their patience was still that thin. There isn't another profession on the planet with a leash that short.

LSU always wanted to move on from Orgeron, the team just played too well for them to get rid of him.

Talking of getting screwed look at Harsin at Auburn, they’re doing everything they can to get out of paying him after year one.

That's what I'm saying. It's a job with so much BS. They never ridded themselves of the idea of getting rid of him, even after he won a title. It seems that unless you're winning like Saban, there are always at least a few boosters prodding you, if not outright plotting how to get rid of you.

Georgia offensive line coach Matt Luke is stepping away from coaching football so he can "shift my focus to spending more time with my family," he said in a statement on Monday. Luke has been the Bulldogs' O-line coach for the past two seasons.

"(Luke) has been an invaluable part of our staff and played a great role in helping us win a National Championship," Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said. "We are so appreciative of everything he has done for Georgia Football. Matt, Ashley, and his children have been, and will continue to be, an important part of the Bulldog family and Athens community."

He realized he works for uga, the HQ is a building named after a skid mark, his coach is a raging arrogant a$$, the fans are passive aggressive whiny Karens, and the program is trash.

I wish him and his family the best, and hope no health issues are involved, but overall this seems like a logical move! 😎😎
