I was looking at GT's schedule and they play Mississippi State and Vanderbilt along with the yearly Georgia match-up. I know that MSU and Vandy arent the greatest team but, I think it is a great way for GT to get a strength of schedule advantage.
That's because you've never been outside that 2 mile bubble you live in...
Yes GT is trying to schedule more SEC games. GT Tennessee used to be a rivalry. GT Auburn too. They were in the SEC, moron.
Spent plenty of time at the ACC tournament this year IN ATLANTA where the host school was GEORGIA TECH. I did see a few Tech fans, but they were from Virginia.
GT is a great program with a decent history, but I'm confident that their fanbase isn't much larger than Vandy or Wake Forest. No big deal.

Are you out of your freaking mind?? If you were in ATLANTA then you saw more than a few Tech fans just by sheer proximity to the campus. Once again, don't waste everybody's time ranting about subjects completely foreign to you.
Also... I'm as die hard a UT fan as you can get, and I only mildly follow GT football, but their 'decent history' is comparable to the 'decent history' of UT, Bama, PSU, etc. Ever hear of John Heisman? Bobby Dodd? Do you actually know anything about Georgia Tech football or are you seriously basing your 'confidence' on the fact that YOU (one person) saw a 'few' GT fans at the ACC BASKETBALL tournament in which they weren't even supposed to win their first round game? God some people on this board need to take a good hard look at not renewing their internet subscription.
Memories of the Air Force game keep popping in my head.
Paul Johnson has them going in the right direction... Keep in mind he didn't have any of his own atheletes last year running his offense

A lot of people seem to be saying that Johnson will be better off when he has his own recruits. I actually wonder if his most talented teams will be when he still has players from the previous staff. His system isn't exactly the fast track to the NFL - seems like that would be very bad for recruiting.
You could argue that against the spread as well, its not a fast track to the nfl either. Its hard to run the tripple option offense with guys who are used to a more traditional style... I think if he gets a good athletic QB and some talented backs, he'll do just fine. He did well at georgia southern, and at navy. Granted the ACC is a little tougher, but I still emphasise the word little

I'm going to GT this fall for grad school, and I am VERY excited about the football program. I am and always will be a Vol, but I will definitely be showing some pride for GT when I get there.
I asked my friends this, and they all have differing opinions, so I'll ask yall. Do you think that Tech can ever win a Championship with the triple option? I want to say no, because teams would figure it out. But i think that it's been a long time since a team has been very successful with it, so they might be able to catch some big schools off guard.
I feel like I heard they were trying to Schedule more SEC opponents. They are apparently trying to renew old rivalries from their past. I think Auburn and GT used to be rivals. GT posters on here, HELP!?!?!?!
Tech has 5 SEC titles, and Tech coach Bobby Dodd (the guy the coach of the year award is named after) was the arch nemesis of Bear Bryant. Also was an All American QB for Tennessee, wasn't he?
Our roots are SEC.
We had a home and home set up with Bama, but they dumped it when we hired Paul Johnson. I think we were fine with that because Saban had finally had a good year, so we probably weren't too psyched about playing them either. We were also supposed to have a home and home with Ole Miss, but I think they ran from that recently too, after the 08 season. Officially I think they wanted to "delay the game" a few years, probably hoping we lose our coach by then. I still think we're trying to fill that spot. Yall interested? I'd love to play Tennessee.
Auburn is one of our four biggest historic rivals, but Bama is probably the nastiest old rival. Lot of bad blood in that one, from the Dodd/Bryant stuff, as well as from Curry. Tubberville refused to play us after we spanked them twice this decade. Dunno about the new guy, I suppose we could get in on some Auburn games too. If there's one SEC team I want nothing of, it's LSU. They always seem to have our number.
Regarding our fanbase, well yeah, we're a very small school, and UGA alums outnumber GT alums in our own home town, due to proximity, so that can make it difficult. We love our football though.
Regarding PJ's system not being a fast track to the NFL, I recall Ladanian Tomlinson (option RB from Texas Christian) doing fairly well in the NFL. Jon Dwyer currently at Tech will almost assuredly be a first round pick, quite possibly the #1 overall taken.
Regarding championships ... we gotta reduce the number of 3 turnover games we have per year, and gotta find a kicker. Because we don't have the media support of some other schools, our only path to the NC is to go undefeated, and that can be hard if your offensive system is high risk/high reward. I like our chances at some ACC Championships in the near future, though, and I like our chances against Georgia.
