"Gets it"

you have got to be kidding me. You are obviously just looking to stir the pot. If thats the greatest compliment you can give Cbj, you arent paying attention. You better wake up and enjoy the fact that you have a coach that "gets it"!

What does it mean?

I see a coach doing what any coach at UT should be doing. I see others thanking God for Butch Jones because he "gets it".

Has there ever been a coach that has been in a position to receive such praise and accolade for simply doing what is expected of him than our very own Butch Jones?

The greatest compliment I can give Jones is that he isn't Dooley.

I couldnt remember why I had the OP on ignore so I removed him, his second post reminded me that he is a Bottom Feeder if ever there was one and he is back on ignore.

You can't take opposing opinions in stride says more about you than me.

Actually getting done what is expected is a rare thing. Enjoy the fact that at this point he is meeting and exceeding even the most ridiculous expectations.

Recruiting has been very good, that's not debatable. I want to know what "gets it" means, I see it all over this site.

Will Butch Jones still "get it" after the Oregon game?

This thread is reminiscent of something that utfantillidie would start.

OP starts a thread, stirs up the pot, and then vanishes from defending his post from all the disagreements with it posted later on. Fantastic.

You were saying?

Really? As skeptical as I've been, or realistic as I prefer to call it, I can see the light years of difference between Butch and anyone else we could've hired. Butch didn't just come in and "do the right things" more like he just is the right guy. He's embracing OUR tradition, bringing back OUR former players and coaches, has jump started the excitement for the program with both this approach and our #1 ranked 2014 recuiting class, and....HE GETS IT. He gets it means he just knows what UT needed right now - like he's been a Vol all his life. He may not have been our first choice, he may not have been the best coach in America job hunting at the time, but I've no doubt the he was the man most specifically qualified for what UT needed to wake back up to success. We'll see in the fall and coming seasons if he can keep up the steam, but we're talking about what he has done thus far.

I expect anyone who coaches at UT to fully understand the expectations and to try every angle to accomplish those goals.

It appears Butch understands that, which is nice but it's not something to hang your hat on, not to me anyway because I see that as the bare minimum of expectations.

He and staff are killing on the recruiting trail and that is certainly reason for optimism.

The question in the OP was more directed to the fans on this site and not a jab at Butch. Thus far Butch has done everything he is SUPPOSED to and done it well.

But that's just it, shouldn't the reasonable expectation be the results we're seeing?

In other words, while I appreciate what he's done I'm not ready to put him on a pedestal for it.

Actually its not reasonable to expect him to have the #1 class in the nation considering our recent past. He is accomplishing everything you HOPE he would at this point but in no way should you have expected it. No way you should have expected him to do everything he's done for the fans, former players and former coaches. No way you should have expected him not to have made at least some sort of mistake at this point. Sorry but your expectations are in the clouds if think he's ONLY doing what he should be doing. If I were you I would hold his hand while he stepped up on that pedestal you mentioned because at this point that pedestal should be a pretty tall one!

I basically agree with the OP.

Butch is doing a very good job of doing his job. But let's not pretend this class wasn't sitting up like a softball ready to be crushed by any but the most miserably incompetent-- i.e. the former hero to so many here, Derek Dooley.

A 40+ point beatdown will likely put a damper on some of the optimism. But more than just the Oregon game, it'll be interesting to see what this site is like at the end of the Alabama game. At that point, UT will have likely lost 5 of its last 6 games. Like you, I wonder how many people will still think Jones "gets it" then when they realize how far off we really are. As long as the recruiting class doesn't fall apart during the season though, I think that will keep most satisfied. More than anything, I feel like the recruiting and hope for improvement in the coming years is what's got people excited, not so much anything that's going to happen this year.

We were never going to beat Oregon so that is a moot point.

What?

I can't speak for the OP, but it's not a stretch to think that the enthusiasm may be tempered after some losses this season. How is that moot? Meaning will people still say he gets it?

If he can hold on to the commits through the season, enthusiasm will be high once again.

If you've SEEN IT and read the context it's in reference to, and still don't understand IT, how can we explain IT to you? We have no way of gauging how quickly the wins will accumulate...But there's a buzz and energy to this program that I've never experienced....And I started living and dying Vol early Majors era. The current pantheon of great coaches...Saban, Meyer and maybe Kelly...in. college football, haven't been as transparent and open in delivering their message to their fan bases. When Saban started revitalizing Bama, you didn't hear the testimonials and Inky Johnson speeches from former lettermen....this is a different animal! If we lose bad to Oregon, as many predict, will Butch still GET IT?....As long as our Vols get out there and fight, compete and improve H€[[ YEAH...Butch is GETTING IT BACK for us! :zeitung_lesen:
