The SEC didn't have a 3 point line back then...They adopted it years later.Devoe didn’t embrace the 3 point baskets. He said that any player checking where their feet were before taking a shot would be benched.
Dale Ellis played in the paint most of the time. UT didn’t have big, talented post players so Ellis unselfishly played around the hoop. He was very effective because of his quickness. Ellis pretty much developed his perimeter game after he was already on the Maverick’s/Sonic’s rosters. Actually not until he was at Seattle after 3 years in Dallas.

Yeah I remember that one...Line went across the top of the free throw line.I know. The NCAA D1 adopted the 3PL after Dale Ellis’ last year but while Devoe was still UT’s coach. It was added between Tony White’s junior and senior years. Conferences set the distance. The ACC’s was only 17’9”. It intersected with the free throw circle.
