Well, since basically everyone and their mother is turning us down, I would think that Hart might grab a clue here and go back to the table with Gruden and actually get it right this time?! I figure that ship has sailed and Gruden's ego would not allow him to come in behind this total circus, but who knows?

So true. Surely someone in AD dept. would realize they'd recup the extra $$$$ over hiring another quickly and then some. Maybe Grud's demands where too much and money wasn't the issue is all I can figure or Hart is pulling a Jerry Jones and he's in charge.

Reading today on other media sites that the Raiders are on the table to get Gruden. I also wonder what happened that caused the breakdown in the 1st Gruden/UT contact. I know it takes time folks, but really, it's a little embarrassing for other SEC schools to fire and hire (whether they're high profile or not) and we're still "searching".

Agreed. Looking from the outside in, it appears this "search" has turned into a shiv show. Not taking anything away from Coach Strong but has he really proven he deserves a $1.2 million (or whatever it is) raise?? And now it seems we've basically thrown all our eggs in one basket? Man, I'm not sure what to think.

There's no table to go back to since Gruden turned down the original invite. Gruden has no interest in coaching college football. Let it sink in.

No, we definitely do NOT want to court Gruden any more. He is not coming here. To make another run at him would only make Tennessee look much more pathetic than it already looks. Face it, we will probably spend the next decade looking up from the bottom of the SEC and struggling to win against Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Vandy and Kentucky. It will be a while before it happens, but to get a great coach who will want to stay here for a long time will take a LOT OF MONEY, which we do not have right now. The more I think about it, the more disgusting the Fulmer firing looks. He probably had another ten good years left in him and Hamilton *****ed Tennessee good with that egotistical power move.

That argument has never pulled weight with me. I don't give a crap what or when other schools do, but I would rather take more time as long as we draw the best possible coach that will come.

If there was never any talks at all, then you just called out half of the so-called reliable posters here as being full of @#$%. I truly believe we got closer than many think.

I think the best possible candidate is looking more and more like the one that was fired in '08.

"they will get the right guy"-- who is your best guess at this point since everyone of substance so far has turned us down?

Forget Strong!!!!!!!!! I question his dedication if he came to Tennessee!! I do not want a coach that has to mull over an offer....Coach Strong, please stay with the Cardinals!! We do not want coaches that are halfway committed!!!

people acting like UT has been turned down by a bunch of coaches. Dont understand why people believe all media reports about offers, rejections, etc. Just now Butch Jones said he was not CU coach but it was reported it was done. It was already reported last week he was Purdue bound. No media yesterday knew of Beilema and Arky. Agents put stuff out their about their clients turning down jobs. Amazes me how fans and media act like UT is desperate and getting rejected daily.

Bobby Petrino for 5yr/$25 Million, a new Harley and exclusive rights to Heather Harrington. Also a $20 buyout clause if he wants to leave at any point before his contract is up.

Gruden ain't coachin' college football.......period. Gundy's staying where he is (with a raise now). Strong's negotiating a raise at Louisville, Fedora's trying the same at Chapel Hill. Here's the problem, the HC'ing revolving door at UT has candidates nervous. They all want guarantees. And Hart can't afford to guarantee anything. This thing might end up to be a total surprise hire. It's turning into a mini-prefect storm unless Hart's REALLY willing to gamble. But he can't afford to lose again and he is well aware of that fact. UT may hire a HC that you might not've never heard of, or one without any HC'ing experience.

Does it really matter wether your making 3mil a year or 5mil a yr? Us common folk making 25-75 thousand a year, how would someone making this much money do with 2 extra mil?
Don't get me wrong, but I would like to experience it myself! In all reality if you are happy doing what you are currently doing, what is 2 more mil a year? I'm sorry, but I am an East TN man making ends meet. So what is 2 more Mil gonna help anyone make a decisioin? In my opinion, you can only spend so much money and if you are already in the mils, what is this gonna prove? I would like to have the opp. to spend 3-5Mil, but come on these high dollar coaches are not gonna jump ship for a .5 mil to 2 mil! JMO
