Who came to Afghanistan to help these locals? You had Muslims from all over the Middle East come there to help wage war. Case in point - Bin Laden. Did they come there for oil? Real estate? Wealth?

Perhaps they feared for their way of life from aggressive conquerors. What religion were the Soviets misconstruing on their march?

People usually aren't too keen on "outside" people coming in and completely rearranging their existence.

Especially their religious existence. Taking down or boarding up mosques and forbidding Islam from being practiced tends to bring out the bomber in all of them.

Yea, crikey, people defending themselves.

I am still interested in the misconstrued religion that the Soviets were using as their reasoning?

Do both sides have to have religion? Not really. Again, I guess you keep missing the statement on the Islamic jihad that took place. I'm guessing all of the Islamic fundamentalists from all over the Middle East that came to Afghanistan were fighting for their 40 acres and a camel? I mean THEY were not invaded and there is such a plethora of resources such as oil there to fight for....great beaches, mansions, lavish lifestyle, etc. Any other reason so many fundamentalists of a certain region would leave their country to fight to the death?

Perhaps they could put together the idea that if the Soviets succeeded there, they would continue to advance. But my original point was that "religion is not required" for the ills of warfare and strife, so thanks for agreeing with me. Especially since the aggressors in this case were not using it. But continue your condescending attitude if you think it helps you.

The condescending attitude comes from repeating the same point that is ignored. When I repeatedly give an example of religion used in Afghanistan and you ignoring it only harping on the Soviets, I resort to another tactic. Obviously it helps since you finally acknowledge my point. If it works, keep using it.

I am not ignoring anything, just pointed out how lousy your point was. I am not going to blame "misconstrued religion" for people defending their country, or religion at all. Most people will defend their homes, religious or not. You often state people "miss your points" on here. Another poster claimed this as well, it seems he was correct.
