Gone but not forgotten: Knoxville area restaurants and retailers we miss.

Probably none of you have heard of Cas Walker.

Lived in North Carrick the first 2 years 1975-1976. Occasionally they would arrange a guest speaker to come in to the 1st floor lobby and tell stories and answer questions afterward. I was fortunate to get to hear both Cas Walker and John Ward.

There were far more than 1-3% wearing them in 1975.
Maybe in Knoxville? Maybe in non-professional jobs? Maybe after work?
I almost never saw them in a professional job where people wore suits and ties. I visited clients around the country often, and don't recall seeing their workers wearing them either. I graduated in December, 73, so 74 forward.
They might have started the trend towards casual dress for professional workers. In the 80s it quickly went from suits and ties to just ties to shirts with collars. Lawyers were about the only people that still wore suits.

Time Out Deli. Went there with my dad and family for years after games. It was small, bathroom always had a bleach odor, guys always seemed over worked. Always talked about the game not sure they ever watched them, but they made good hoagies. Sometimes cold in the middle yet normally just fine. They may have been put on beer probation a time or two as well, but that's what I remember, of course my dads been gone for a long time now.

The building at the NW corner of Hollywood and Sutherland was originally a Time Out Deli, but the one that I often visited was Ali-Baba’s across from the “new” Bearden High School.

No, it really wasn’t business attire. More nightlife and church and on TV. I bet if there is video preserved of the mid-1970s Tonight Shows Johnny Carson’s some guests were styling the leisure suits (or at least the jacket) every night. Leisure suits were a huge fad that had about jumped the shark as SNL started rolling in the 1975-76 TV schedule. I think that Aykroyd often wore one when his character was being outrageous, maybe in some Dan Garvin Male Prostitute or Tom Snyder skits.

I worked there in 1975, it was my first job, and then I went by there in 2006 and they said that they still remembered me.......maybe so.

early 90s, Holiday Inn at Papermill had a comedy bar inside. Saw Pinkard and Bowden there.

Mid 80s there was a comedy bar on Kingston Pk near East Town mall. I remember seeing Judy Tenuta. I think she was still married to Emo at the time

Was that the one at Clinch and James Agee St? Vic and Bill's? I had a buddy who had an apartment near there where we would pre-game and post-game and I ate many a vol burger and pizza burger from that place. If you went there late at night you would see some interesting folks from the Carousel sometimes.

The photo is Ali Baba’s on the north side of Kingston Pike just east of Gallagher View. Across from Bearden HS.

Went to that comedy club many times. I remember going there in 1990 the night before the ND game. It was packed.

It was the one on Kingston Pike in West Knoxville, but I did go to the Carousel one or two times with some of my Girl friends back in the mid 70's.

Tony's VIP was one of my favorite places.I had a really high batting average at that place. Completely different crowd but Thursday nickle beer night at The Tap room on the strip was always entertaining.

I can't remember that mall being near that bar.
