Look familiar......

I guess IGA must have been there before A&P?

A&P was there in the 1960s. So was a Kroger. The cars indicate it was 1976 or later if the one in front of the early 70s Chevy pickup truck has rectangular headlights. 1975 was the last year with only round headlights.

I forgot it changed to IGA, must have happened sometime in the early 70’s

I saw Rocky and Network in those theaters.
Wow......how time flies, I saw the Rocky Horror Picture show at that movie theater that they built around
that time on Kingston pike and I think it was called something West maybe, O'Charley's is there now and
it would have been behind it.

Maybe The Fox? Kingston 4 open a little further down across from Bearden High in 76.

Kingston Cinema 4 iirc. A bit farther west from O’Charley’s. I think that Rooms To Go might be there now (RTG moved from the other side of KP just east of Bearden HS).

I think that Rocky Horror had a pretty long run as a midnight movie at Kingston Cinema 4 in the late 1970s. The Fox Theatre was several years older than Kingston 4 and also the Downtown West multi-theater. The Fox and West Town were single screen theaters although West Town was later split into 2 screens (iirc). The other west side movie theaters were in Homberg - the Knoxville Drive-In on Forest Park, the Capri theaters (and later the Capri Terrace). The Capris were the Simpson family. Then there was another drive in at Dixie-Lee junction. The Park on Magnolia and the Tennessee and Riviera on Gay Street. There were a couple others on Gay Street before I was aware of them. I think that one was where the First TN/Horizon (United American Bank) Tower stands. Another drive-in out Broadway before I-640 was built. Another drive-in out Chapman Highway (maybe 2) and (I think) another on Alcoa Highway near Lakemoor Hills. There was even a small drive in on Northshore just south of Kingston Pike that I’ve seen in old aerial pics. I almost forgot about the one on Cedar Bluff behind McDonald’s. It might have been a twin screen.

This spot south of Kingston Pike and east of Northshore “might” have been a small drive-in. If not there it was just on the other side of the train tracks. You can’t really make anything out from this 1953 picture. C3BFADA8-6FD2-4583-90D1-251D888DD5E8.png

Knoxville Drive-In on Forest Park (1969 pic). UT graduate and married student housing to the right. Cherokee CC golf course to the southwest.

Which was the drive-in theater on the south side of Kingston Pike just past Western Plaza heading west?
