Good AJC Article on Coach Firings

The new problem in CFB is the escalating amount that colleges are paying HC's. Soon it'll be impossible for a school to fire two coaches in-a-row. What if UT's next HC is a bust? IMHO this $5+ mil HC thing will collapse CFB as we know it. :hi:

I agree with the article totally. I have long believed that a coach's salary and buyout should be tied to success. The idea that a coach can make $3-5 million a year and get a $5 million buyout for having a losing record as a coach is just plain insane. If, during my 47 years in industry, I was not able to produce, I would have been fired and got nothing but a pink slip.

Off topic but I have to ask a Georgia fan while I have one. Are UGA fans going to go all suicidal if they lose to Bama Saturday? Will that be the end of CMR? What are the feelings on his job security? Is this game a "make or break" one.

Unless you were the CEO of Lehman Brothers.

I agree 100% with the article. They really should base it on results. It would be cool if a salary cap type of thing existed in college or at least paid on a tier basis.

Good post and I agree with what you have said. That being said I wouldn't give the UGA fan too much credit. Just another attempt from him to crap on a potential hire that could outcoach Richt (Fulmerlight) with less talent.

Which reminds me, what do you get when you quickly drive through a UGA campus?..........An Undergraduate degree.

Fair or not, this is a must win for the UGA coaching staff. There's no other way to put it.

It's at least a must compete. They can't get blown out like last year. I think it'll be a good game.

I hear you but that may not be enough. There is a clear path to play in the NC and that is what the fans want. We have our fair share of loons in our fan base and they will start up the hot seat talk once again.

I wouldn't mind seeing Richt in orange.

Especially since Rambo has boldly stated UGA has the superior athletes to Bama. :dunno:

To be fair, he may be right. Bama has great athletes, but on D I don't think they have a gamechanger like Jarivs Jones. Murray is probably a better QB talent-wise than McCarron, but McCarron has the huge advantage of having won in the biggest of games. Murray has yet to step up in a big game. And the same is true in a Saban vs Richt comparison. Richt has yet to show he can win a big game. I do think UGA will give a better showing than they did against LSU last season, but I look for mistakes to undo UGA this season.

I think Hart has to hire to settle the fan base...someone that with the first lose you would hear the hot seat topic...reporters would not bring up the hot seat subject...and would give the coach a clear 3-4 years to build a dynasty..anything less would bring the boo birds out quicker than with CDD interim...and probably have harts name included...so I am all for sitting back and letting Hart do his job because I think he has been working on this hire all season...just because of the rumbles of the fan base 2011 Kentucky game...even if you are blind you could see the munity gaining a stride...so I believe it only leaves 1 coach to hire...but thatÂ’s not my job to suggest...so we wait..1 week to 10 days to open our new Christmas surprise...just like I did in 1988Â…waiting patiently for a remake in 2012Â…Go Vols

GA should count there blessings that there even playing in the SEC championship. IMO they lose to Florida if those teams line up again. Florida played like crap for one game and it's cost em. I think Bama takes the game by at least 14. Now if Richt loses his job, GA deserves some down years. Overall record Richt isn't a bad coach, I would have traded him anyday for Dools.

I was talking to a friend who is a big Dawg fan before the Vandy game and he said we'd be crazy to fire Dooley that he would be a great coach one day. I looked him in the eye and said we'll trade Dooley for Richt and give you Bray for boot, he smiled and shook his head no.

Excellent post. While on the same airwave, I took my dog for a walk this morning and he pissed all over our neighbor whom was wearing orange pants.

Georgia would be crazy to fire Richt if they loose to Bama. If that happens, Tennessee will take Richt right now!!! JMHO

If Richt can't win in Ga where it is easier to recruit, then why do you think he would be more successful here? That is just crazy. I'm glad he is there and think they should give him an extension.

Although I like Mark Richt as a person and have respect for him I think he has greatly underachieved at Georgia....BUT I cant see a scenario where losing this game to Bama means they fire him....I mean...think about it...that's plain silly....HOWEVER....will the heat turn up to high next season and beyond if he loses this game???? ABSO---FREAKIN---LUTELY!!!!!

Even if GA loses to Bama (I hope they crush the Tide), Richt isn't going anywhere. Playing in the SEC title game means at worst a 10 - 3 season after bowl games and that's if they lose the SEC title game and their bowl game. Good shot to be 11 - 2 or of course 12 - 1 and Natl. Champs. No way he's on the hot seat to start next year.

There is no way this is a Must win for Richt. The ONLY thing you can control in the SEC is winning your division. Success is measured on trips to the Seccg for the big boys in the SEC.

Richt has played in 5 of 12 in his tenure, almost 50%. For any TN fan to say we wouldn't take that is crazier than any mutt saying they want him fired. How ignorant would any fan be to want their coach fired that is 11-1 and playing for a shot at the nc.

BTW, watch the refs, big money wants bama vs nd in the big one. RATINGS gold mine for the game plus the hype leading up to it, arguably the best two programs of all time.
