Good explanation regarding Tennessee’s current recruiting and portal situation

Wasn't really aware of the still scholarship reductions. Explains alot. Am good building from within strategy vs Kiffin model, with the only caveat being we're going to have to get those OL/WRs on the field early for depth. Also, maybe bad logic, but if we're signing less players thru the portal, then I'd think we'll be able to invest heavily for the players we want...in my mind, if we've only got a few slots, they need to be WR/OL unless you've got someone w/ exponential talent at another position wanting to be a Vol.

Every idiot in here should read this and then STFU and let our coach do his job. It's obvious that people are frustrated with the lack of information coming from UT related to recruiting but they don't owe anyone that information.

I think that's exactly what they're doing. I think they focused specifically on McCoy & Heard last year. I'm hearing we're trying to make a play on Branch. We're losing players but I dint think people realize that we nearly have a full roster and alot of guys had to go. We might only have 4-5 spots open so he has to be real specific in the way he fills those spots. 2 impact WR's and the entire outlook changes.

Good question...cuz I don't read clickbait.
this really isn’t click bait, if you care but don’t really know what’s going on with the players bailing, who we’re recruiting, and how we attack the portal.

Can somebody confirm that the vast majority of our 25’ class are EE’s? Sure seems like I saw that on here somewhere. Makes them even better.

I’m not sure what you took from it that has you so upbeat. It essentially says UT spent most its schollies on high schoolers and not portal gets. What that means- we have what is supposed to be our generational QB, but not any stars or experience to go with him, so next year prob ain’t our year. Not sure building through that many high schoolers is the play anymore with NIL. Half of them will transfer out the next year and we will be back to square 1. Its looks like being competitive in the portal is a must to keep a good balance, and we’ve not done that.

This article says a lot without really saying anything.

The whole recruiting scandal reduction of scholarships is kind of a red herring. We only lose 2 or 3 scholarship players total per year. Most teams get 85 we get like 82 or 83 that's no big damn deal. If your team it teetering on the edge of disaster because of 2 less scholarships then something else is bad wrong with your program. The bigger issue is that this incoming class is #5 under Josh Heupel so there should already be considerable depth throughout the roster regardless of scholarship reductions. We saw this big time on the D Line. We had like 3 complete D lines that we could rotate. We need to sacrifice a little of that to get more depth on the OL. Then we have the issue with an entire position group abandoning the team. Whether that was Heupel's plan to push them all out or they left because of bad blood with a coach who knows but it's not a good sign and this article doesn't address it at all so it's like a distraction 'hey look over here at this thing that's not really a thing' article.

Bottom line is the team is going to get younger. Is that a good thing for a QB that still needs development and will be throwing to all new receivers next year? That's the article I want to read.

I wonder if the decision to sign so many high school players stems from the idea perhaps Heup didn’t expect so many to hit the portal? If you think you’re only losing say 14-16 players you may be more inclined to go younger in this cycle??

Also just thinking out loud if signing large HS classes is going to be bad strategy going forward? Most won’t stay long term and it may limit you (like this year) in getting game ready talent for critical position needs. Just a thought.

A bunch of true freshman aren’t gonna do it. We need experienced help now on OL and WR at a minimum. Terrifying if that is still the plan after a trip to the woodshed in Columbus.

Does no one here remember how weak hands and Henny Pennies panicked and created an uproar when we upgraded the DBs last year?

The bad part is people see guys like Ryan Williams and Jeremiah Smith and think oh man our true FR should do that. Guys like that don’t grow in trees. Not every true freshman plays and plays well.

I know every BYU walk on gets tuition covered. I didn't think scholarship limits were as big as deal anymore.

2 or 3 less scholarships is significant in the SEC. I was clueless thought we were out of those woods.
