Good ole Butch strikes again

He didn't "leave" -- he was fired. And I already said I was pissed about it just the same. But he was fired. He didn't just up and leave like Kiffin did.

I don't understand, because he was "fired" instead of "leaving" that makes it acceptable? What kind of point are you trying to make here?

Butch is an unprofessional hack that gets by on snake oil and previous coaches. His history and job hopping are a testament to this. And in our case, he rubbed it in our faces.

Why do people get mad about Butch collecting money he was owed per his contract? Get mad at UTAD offering him that kind of a deal. You'd take it too. Then you get to go learn from the best to ever do this? Of course you do that.

Well, I am a fan. But UT does have facilities that are superior to most of cfb. We have tradition. We have a huge stadium and a rabid fanbase. Knoxville is a beautiful town in a beautiful part of the world. And we play in the best conference in cfb. We have a lot to offer and are superior to USC in many ways. And if Lane had told us up front that he would only stay for one season there's no way we would have hired him, IMO.

the facilities lmao man UT is about 4th in facilities in the conference, tradition lmao that’s been dead the past 10+ years, the stadium is outdated but a great environment, the fans are livid and amazing, but UT is an afterthought to anyone outside of the fan base.
As far as Lane and the one year, nobody knew that Pete was gonna get busted and dip to the NFL. As anyone with common sense would admit the chance to take over USC at that moment was far more intriguing than rebuilding the prestige and tradition of a sinking ship at UT.

I get it, you don't like him. That's obviously your right. All I'm saying is don't be surprised if he continues to be a successful cfb head coach.

Butchisms that live forever

63 strain
snap and clear
Six inch war (although not his)
5 star hearts
energy vampire

He liked to drop little notes like this in a coach talk to be a filler and reminder that he has no idea WTH he's doing.

Butch won the recruiting lottery, whether by luck or his hard work.
He was not a good coach, look at the collapses during his tenure both in games and in seasons. Maybe Saban taught him something, but I suspect he has no more of a football mind now than he did when he was here.
I do feel for Barb and the boys and what they were put through, but the millions he made while here (and after) should soften the blow.

He can't follow anyone now, so his success rate has fallen drastically. He followed Brian Kellys career until he got here. He has yet to show we can do it on his own and unfortunately for him there will always be better options for open jobs.

4th in the SEC isn't bad, though, right? In fact, it kind of supports what I'm saying. I didn't say we we had the best and I wouldn't say that. But we've put a lot of money into improvements over the years and a lot of recruits seem impressed when they visit.

But I guess it doesn't matter. We just disagree. I don't think tradition dies, for instance. So maybe we're just different kinds of fans. And I guess I can kind of understand why a fan who thinks Tennessee tradition is dead wouldn't blame a coach who made a commitment to Tennessee and then left without warning after just one season.

Butch also won his first game as their new head coach and scored 50 points in a 5-point loss to Memphis, who beat Mississippi State the following week. I predict that Arkansas State will have a winning team this season under Butch and go to a bowl game. And given Butch's record in bowl games, they'll probably win that game, too.

Butch is a good coach and he still has a bright future. It just didn't work out for him at UT. No need to be petty and hold a grudge, IMO. He didn't screw us over like Lane Kiffin, who half the people here seem to have some sort of man-crush on.

Butch is not a good coach.

I will be very surprised if he is successful at a P5 school that he doesn't follow a successful coach to moved on to better things. The fact of the matter is there is 0 evidence he can do it on his own and be successful.

lol...he followed Dooley at UT!

We had a 28-34 record in the 5 seasons before Butch. In his 5 seasons at UT we were 34-27. This included 3 post-season bowl games in which Butch was a perfect 3-0, outscoring our opponents 128-58. After a 5-7 start in 2013, he went 7-6 in Year Two and then had back-to-back 9-win seasons.

And his two credible wins at UT are because of luck and Florida imploding and eventually collapsing.

It wasn’t because of anything Butch did. Butch was more in the way then anything else. He had to beat Florida and got out of the way for the DC to call the game.

Zero evidence, right...except for when he actually did it here. He followed Dooley! We were 28-34 in the 5 seasons before Butch. In his 5 seasons at UT we were 34-27 with 3 post-season bowl games in which Butch was a perfect 3-0, outscoring our opponents 128-58.

I hate to repeat myself, but the hate is so out of control that it's causing you guys to deny reality.

and he managed to be the best in the East and still didn’t make ATL. That’s good?

I’ll give CBJ credit for beating UF. That was an amazing game. Outside if that there isn’t much there. There just isn’t.

As far as Butch goes to hell with him wherever he goes. He burned so any bridges and recruited so many fake players it was unreal. This post is also ridiculous at the end. Lane left for a top 5 job in America at USC get over it and blame the AD who put a no buyout clause in his contract.
I will wager that Lane regrets that decision and wishes he had never left Knoxville. The grass ain’t always greener even if it’s your “dream” job.
