I agree with a lot of these points. Missing players, new coaches and a hostile environment are a bad match. What still bothers me is we are better than Florida but could not get it done for a myriad of reasons. Ultimately we have to clean up penalties and become a disciplined football team. Those ARE controllables and on the coaches. Some of you would be wise to read this and calm down.
The absence of cooper is a huge problem right now.The personnel changes is a good point, but the “they need time to gel” argument is lame. We’ve had the same amount of time to gel as everyone else. This year was always expected to be a “rebuilding” year in the form of an 8-4/9-3 season but if they aren’t careful the REAL rebuilding year will be 2024 because our talented underclassmen aren’t getting much meaningful experience, particularly in the secondary.
Apparently I missed that Gibson got some run in the swamp. That’s good. Hopefully his PT will increase as the season progresses. Also want to see more from Matthews, Hobbs, Webb, Davis and the young OLs. They will all be critical to success in 2024. Also wouldn’t mind seeing Seldon in the slot.
It’s worth noting that Golesh likely cost his team a chance to win against Bama last weekend with his mismanagement. He’s not perfect either. That article scares me bc it looks like Golesh was the brains and heart behind our offense. It wasn’t just UF…Southern Illinois hung 49 on AP. UVA can’t win a game. This year looks much more likely to be 6-6 than 8-4. And that will kill any recruiting momentum.
No doubt about it. Nothing kills an offense like Defensive Tackles getting upfield. Pockets get crushed, RBs have to dance and nothing works consistently. I don't want to call out players, but it looked like the situation was just too big for a couple of guys we had out there. The absence of cooper is a huge problem right now.
No coach is perfect. What is wanted though is a coach who gets his teams to exceed expectations. Golesh clearly did this week while Heupel did not. Not advocating replacing Heupel at all of course. He is doing a fantastic job overall. But the last two weeks have not been the best. I don’t think that continues to happen thoughIt’s worth noting that Golesh likely cost his team a chance to win against Bama last weekend with his mismanagement. He’s not perfect either.
