Little Italy has some of the best pizza and subs in town. You get a footlong sub for like $3 or $4. Can't beat that.

The Grit is an incredible, healthy place to eat. I always make a point to stop in there when I'm in town.

I assume you wouldn't ask here if you were looking for healthy food. The only true Varsity is in downtown Atlanta; I would prefer a 5 Guys burger above any other.

DePalma's and Clocked are my favorites. DePalma's is mostly Italian-ish...calzones, pizza, GREAT pasta, etc. The only reason to go there however is the meatball breadsticks. Trust me, those breadsticks alone are worth a trip to Athens.

Clocked is great too. More like a small diner, but they have an amazing feta burger.

Both of these are downtown within walking distance of campus. (Favorite bar is All Good...also downtown)

I agree that the Varsity is the most overrated place in the history of restaurant reviews. If you can't find ex-lax, go to the varsity.

Try Taco Mac for tailgating type food/wings.

Not food, but if you're in Athens and like fine beer, do not miss Trappeze. Best beer bar in the south that I know of, and I know of a lot of them.

Best bars, imo, are Copper Creek and The Globe. All others are crappy and loud (i.e. Bar Code).

The Grill is a good place to eat downtown, as well as Taco Stand and Amicis. Fatz on Lexington Rd. is pretty good as well.

There are lots of bars in Athens, but most of them are crappy nondescript college bars with terrible beer. Trappeze has the best beer selection I've ever seen in the south. It's worth singling out for anybody going to the game who might be interested in quality beer.

And man, it's cheap to drink in Athens. Good times.
