Good read from ESPN on Joe Milton

I will admit I was hard on Milton right after the game, but going back and watching the game, a lot of that was on the receivers. He was honestly only off on like 3 passes. We will see this Saturday if he can step up and get us the W. He’s going to have to run the ball when the defense gives it to him tho.

He is not allowed to miss any passes. Anything less than 100% and 20 YPA and he is a scrub.

No matter how great or how poorly Joe plays this season, I would wager that he will be on some NFL team’s roster next season. Some team will want to see if they can develop that raw ability. You cannot teach arm strength like that.

I'm just old and can barely recall being that young and fearless and playfully athletic but dang Joe, let's put the standing back flips away.

We need those legs to stay healthy.

For someone that idolized Cam Newton, he doesn't run nearly enough.

And that bad part is that he has good straight line speed. He's probably 4.6 and he just doesn't run enough.

Cam ran a lot because it kept the chains moving.

Yeah, it's a shame, but Milton is not a runner. He's not a dual threat QB. Never been a dual threat QB. The most he's ever run in a season is around 100 yards. This isn't news either, people have been saying this since he got to Tennessee. I remember reading a recruiting assessment of him when he transferred saying the guy just doesn't run it that much, even though he looks like he ought to. And his play to date has shown that. He's gonna throw it. He's rarely going to run it.

But people look at his superficial appearance and say "gosh he's so big and athletic, he's gonna run over everybody," and then they predict how he'll run over everybody without the slightest thought of his track record or his tendencies. From what I recall, I think fans at Michigan had much the same attitude. "Well he ought to run the ball more." Sure, okay, super, but - he doesn't. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I want Joe to exceed and start every game this year. With the said half of his completions were behind the line of scrimmage so he never had to chance to redeem himself for a slow but not a bad start.

Did the coaches lose confidence in Joe or did they just play it safe since they knew we would win? Hopefully we will see the entire playbook this week and he throws for 300+ yards and finally get a win down there.

If your WR's can't catch med to long passes then throw screens to win. ANOMALLY - by the second quarter a 70 yard long bomb for 6 and we are off to the races.

He had a bad game, and so did the receivers. The panic on here is overboard because the throws, for the most part, weren’t very far off. It’s not going to take a drastic turnaround; it isn’t as though he was airmailing everything 10 yards away from the receiver on every play. If the receivers settle in and Joe places the ball 5-10% better, the completion rate is going to go way up, and the offense is going to start humming.
Hooker wasn’t great at ball placement either as I recall constantly seeing balls that were little behind or a little high. He definitely has better touch than a Milton though and better pocket presence.

I think the plan for the AP game all along was to get ahead and play conservative, but after the missed passes/catches, and the fact that our run game was clicking, they decided to go ahead and limit the play book.
I believe you’ll see the real Tennessee and real Joe on Saturday.

Exactly, everyone just remembers his first two starts in 2021 and he had like 5 or 6 overthrows and gets hurt in the Pitt 2021 game. And the only other thing they remember is the step out of bounds against Ole Miss in 2021. Otherwise, he's had a really a good career at UT. He's thrown for 1775 yards, 16 TD, 0 INT at 61%. Those are numbers that are really good.

Watch these highlights, he has hit a ton of deepshots. WRs just need to catch:

Issue with Milton, to me, seems to be with how he handles pressure.

I'm thinking the screen passes versus ap was partly because that's what the defense was giving.

Taking my shot right here right now. Joe is gonna throw 80 yard bomb early in the game against Floriduh! Their crowd will not be the same after and we cruise to an easy win win!
