GOP further alienates it's base

if we'd enforce the laws we already have and stop prosecuting border control agents who do their duty a physical wall wouldn't be neccessary. Also, if we put military troops on the border, they should be armed and given powers of arrest. Using the NG as window dressing was both absurd and dangerous.

So the old Soviet style Berlin Wall? Border guards, guns, tanks, etc.?

So? It still served a similar purpose. Do you honestly think that those being trapped behind such a wall would even think about going back home knowing their chances of return are nil?

again, you need to read my post. I'm not saying build the wall, or Wall. Enforce the laws we already have. It'd be nice if you stopped parsing my words to find your own meaning.

Actually I was referring to the military aspects hence the reference to tanks, troops, etc.

I never said you said to build the wall. Perhaps YOU are taking things out of context and parsing words. I asked a question NOT said you were stating something in particular. Don't get so trigger happy and be so knee jerk. Simple question not implying you believe anything. It would be nice if you focused on the line of thought and answer a simple question rather than get so hostile and see things that clearly are not there.

very well. Troops on the border should be armed and able to arrest. Why? there are reports of cross border incursions by Mexican military, there are also reports of heavily armed people smugglers. Putting unarmed troops there just to say we did something is asinine. The Border Patrol is understaffed and is hampered by a politically correct bureaucracy that prosecutes it's own agents for enforcing the law.

I never said anything about tanks, even though they can be seen as a projection of force, if there is no will to use them, they are an asset best used elsewhere.

Nothing I've said should be construed as "Soviet-like". It's obvious to me and many others that our borders, particularly with Mexico, aren't secure.

anyhow, I suppose this is all pointless since Bush, Martinez and the dems will happily approve an amnesty bill. I feel sorry for the citizens in the Southwest.

Martinez and "grassroots" GOP at odds over immigration reform. So, while the Dems are looking like they will implode from internal division, the GOP aren't going to be doing any better at playing the "unified front" game.

which, all things considered, is probably a good thing for the American people since Congress will be too busy fighting itself to screw over the taxpayers.
