reading the wiki article, it doesn't appear that the show was planned to be anything other than an experiment in the first place. It had good ratings, winning it's time slot nearly every week it aired. No reason was given for it's cancellation.

The show's lead over its competition shrank considerably, however, with its Sunday, August 5, 2007 airing.
It appears to me someone saw the writing on the wall that the ship was taking on water and that it's sinking was inevetable that and it was just not funny at all.All shows are experiments if the channel thinks it can make them enough money they buy more episodes if not well you become the 1/2 hour news hour.:thumbsup:

sad part is the show was canceled but still drew more viewers than Olbermann

I never saw anything except for the pilot, which was awful. I am sure my political bias has something to do with my thoughts, but I don't know that I have talked to anyone that saw it and thought it was funny in the least.

The 1/2 hour news hour wasn't good because it came across with anchors that tried too hard to be funny and its on a channel that promotes news, it had its moments, though.

The daily show works because its on a comedy channel. Stewart will take a shot at the Dems when he can get a good enough joke but mostly slams the Repubs. Meanwhile his core audience is the college crowd that probably don't know or don't care that a certain party gets jilted more than the other.

I do find it odd that there isn't a legit counter-show to The Daily Show, I know there are some Repubs out there who could pull it off, maybe like Ben Stein?

I think they only had like one or two shows? I wonder how funny the first one or two episodes of The Daily Show were in comparison to current episodes.

Well, Stewart is a comedian and whoever those two people were on the 1/2 hour news hour weren't.

If I'm not mistaken Craig kilborn was the first host and it was not as political back then as I recall.

Yea, I saw the episodes of the 1/2 hour thing. It wasn't great, but not awful either. Producing a show like that takes time sometimes. A personality has to be formed.

I agree Daily Show mostly slams Repubs, but that's because the GOP has been the dominant power in DC for the past eight years. The Daily Show is really just an anti-establishment show. If Dems take control of the White House I expect things will change.

I doubt there's enough room for another legit comedy show in the same genre (politics, current events) -- especially if its sole purpose is 'counter' perceived bias at the Daily Show. Seems like that kind of show would fail -- and apparently it already has.

My point is the Daily Show is wasting material because of the ideology of the writers/producers.

The 1/2 hour show did suck.
