GOP Representative to BP exec: "I apologize"

The issue gets complicated if money is doled out in anyway that can be construed as politically motivated - e.g. favoring particular entities (unions, ACORN type local agencies that will "help", etc.)

From what I read it is all to pay claims. A panel of judges decides the ones that get denied/need some sort of appeal. Haven't heard anything about any of it going anywhere other than claims.

he already wants bp to pay for people whose jobs are going to be lost because of obama's oil drill ban . why in the world woudl you assume he wouldn't give money to any group asking for it? it isn't his.

Is it coming out of that fund? I am pretty sure Iheard that BP had already set aside (if memory serves) $55 million for that specific thing.

sort of like a large portion of the stimulus money going to states that supported Obama

Oh my gosh! A politician rewards those who supported him !? No way.

I think your partisan point of view on this may be causing you to miss the big picture. Obama's whimsical seizure of private property is setting a very bad precedent in our Constitutional Republic.

How will you feel if the next Republican elected to the Presidency continues this unconstitutional behavior and decides to start seizing property from unions, or from media outlets (too keep them from "failing"), etc.?

A federal government unconstrained by the Constitution is nothing more than a tyranny, and eventually, they will get around to taking a piece of everybody.

Yeah, BP was so stunned and mortified that they immediately filed suit and refused to do it.

Oh wait.

I think there's a bigger picture here. This is just another example of Obama's view of government and what powers it does/should have.

Scary stuff.

No, it isn't. The only people objecting to this are the standard Obama-haters who say that his pooping actually is part of his plan for world domination.

Everyone agrees BP has to pay these claims. This is the mechanism. They agreed to it.

Stop making it more than it is.

yeah, that whole "President of the United States" thing is completely overrated

what an asinine post, even from you.

Every Republican POTUS I've known in my life rewarded those who supported them. Regan and Bush I with tax cuts for the wealthy. Bush II with loosened regulation for his corporate buddies and contributors.

If you think otherwise, you're a bigger idiot than I already believe you to be, which would be tough.

I don't recall too many Presidents borrowing 1.2 trillion dollars from China in an effort to stimulate the US economy.

but, if this perversion of Keynesian theory floats your boat, I don't think I'm the idiot here.

Even Bonner says the apology was stupid. Literally. Stupid. Calling on the Congressman to give up his seat on the committee.

Question: Is Bonner too soft and will he now suffer the wrath of the uber right Obama-haters? Will the Tea Party turn on him like they've turned on so many before him who don't toe the line?

(CNN) - Rep. Jo Bonner called on fellow Republican Rep. Joe Barton to step down as ranking member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Friday following the Texas Republican's controversial statements to BP chairman Tony Hayward on Thursday.
"Earlier this morning, Rep. Barton called me to offer his personal apologies for any harm that his comments might have caused," said Bonner, whose district covers much of Alabama's coastline.
"It takes a big person to admit they were wrong and I appreciated Joe's call," Bonner continued. "However, as I told him, I believe the damage of his comments are beyond repair and, as such, I am today calling on Joe to do the right thing for our conference and immediately step aside as Ranking Member of the Energy and Commerce Committee."
"Joe's comments were stupid and extremely insensitive to the hundreds of thousands of people who live along the Gulf Coast," Bonner added.

Democrats Turn on Obama

To the right and the center, these failings show that Obama is in over his head. But to the left, which bleeds for each drop of water in the Gulf and cries over every turtle or shrimp or sea bird, it is an unpardonable sin.
------------------------------

Long after the oil has stopped spilling, these supposed character defects will haunt the president, just as Carter's reputation of timidity and inability lasted long after the Iran hostages came home.

Does no one else see the irony in this statement?

I definitely see the irony in yours...

The irony is between your ears, if you would shut your yap for a minute, you could hear it bouncing around your empty skull.

The current administration in Washington has infantile paralysis or is afraid to do anything at all except posture and run it's yap or has some sinister agenda that only a moron could ignore.

Many foreign offers to help with oil spill still hanging, website indicates | al.com

As of Friday, no decision had been made on any of those propositions,

Two months of indecision, inaction, evasion and all we get is a lame Carteresque speech.

Hell, not only does the BP exec deserve an apology, every man woman and child in America deserves an apology.

If Bozo can apologize to every Tom, Dick and Harry muslim/socialist country in the world, why would he get lock jaw when it comes to apologizing to the American people who deserve it the most????

Oh wait, El Bozo thinks he's our lord and master.

:weird:

Yes LG, you point out the very flaws you have in everyone else, yet seem to get bitter when someone disagrees with your point. It's ok, though. I'm sure we're all exaggerating about Obama and his view(s) about government and it's role in matters such as these.

Shouldn't you start another thread about leaving right about now?

Signed,
Standard Obama-hater
