I will have to say that Richard Petty is tied with Dale Earnhardt Sr. as the greatest drivers in Nascar history. Jeffy can't hold a candle to either one of them.

Jeffy can't hold a candle to Bobby Allison or David Pearson either.

Not yet anyway.

Thing about Earnhardt's career, unlike Petty or Gordon hopefully... he didn't get a chance to finish it. He finished second in the points when he was 48. Who knows what he might have done in 2001... considering Kevin Harvick took his cars and finished 9th in the overall points without running the 500, I'd imagine Dale would've faired pretty well that year...

I agree with you. I think Dale Sr. still had a few good years of racing left in him. It made losing him even harder to deal with......the "what might have been." :(

Definitely. He wouldn't have been one of those guys like DW or Petty that hung around and drove about 8, 9, or 10 years too long either. I'd say he'd probably already be retired actually, sittin' on the #8 pit box each week.
