Gore's consumption news

Also note this policy group claimed to have gotten it's info from the Nashville Electric Service of which the company said they never got a request and they never offered the info. Sounds like someone's sources need checking....an inconvenient lie?

IMO this all gets back to the dirty little secret of the nanny state, which is that most everyone under the big tent feels that they are somehow part of the elite who will get to tell everyone else how to run their lives without being so constrained themselves. How many hardcore activists do you know who really expect that if the revolution comes about and succeeds they will be pulling a hoe through dirt on the commune?

This comes from someone who supported the government forcing us NOT to smoke in certain private businesses....

I want to go where I chose and not be exposed to second hand smoke and I really don't care what the property owners or other patrons think about it. I'll admit that I'm motivated by my own selfish desires on this issue.

Way to pick and choose liberties...

The second hand smoke and drunk driving issues are one in the same to me....my right to be safe on the highway and not having to breathe somebody else's smoke, is greater than their right to drink and drive or light up while I'm eating. If you want to smoke do it at home or outside (public smoking outside restrictions are silly IMO) if you want to drink don't get behind the wheel after you do.

Since when are driving and eating in restaurants Constitutionally guaranteed rights?

If you want to avoid second hand smoke, eat at your home. If you want to avoid drunk drivers, stay off the roads at night.

If I want a smoker friendly business then why can't I? Don't like a smoky restaurant? Eat somewhere else. Don't whine to me about what I can do on my property.

Nice attempt to compare drunk driving on public roads versus what a business owner chooses to do on his own property.

Fine next time we sit next to each other at a restaurant , I'll come by and spit Skoal in the middle of the table and we'll see what you're reaction is ... at least you're lungs will be safe. At this weekend I'll get loaded and take a test drive down your street.

Go for it. You should probably get loaded prior to 9:30 though, else I am at home, probably in bed.

Also, feel free to spit skoal on my table. Have fun paying the restaurant for the cleaning fee.

If I plow thru the bedroom wall it won't matter much if you're in bed will it?

If there is a sign that says Skoal Spitting allowed and welcomed, I could see that I made a mistake in going there. Your examples are nice attempts but far from legal and logical.

Maybe I want to hang there? Maybe there's really good salad that I just cannot get anywhere else? It doesn't matter, the Ds are about to let the FDA regulate tobacco and that will be the end of it. Also, I'm waiting to jump on the class action of all nonsmokers against people who do smoke for second hand exposure..$$$$..gotta get me some of that action.

Cost benefit.....is the food worth the smoke risk? Make your own decision and don't rely on the government to decide for you.

Oh, I'm capable of making my decision. I just WANT the government to ORDER people to do what I want on pain of prosecution. Sort of like some people want the government to order me to cough up a huge chunk of my hard earned lucre every year so they can sponge.

No, but this post will prove in court that your actions were not only intending harm, but very obviously pre-meditated. Thank you.
All jokes aside I hope you never lose someone because some idiot couldn't call a frigin cab, and the whole issue of smoking in resteraunts could be solved with a contained smoking area separating the smokers from the non-smokers. A half wall or one made of lattice just doesn't cut it.

First, you don't know me. You have no idea of who I have lost in my life through drunk driving, drugs, chemical induced suicides, etc. So, don't try to conquer the "moral high ground" through playing to emotions. If you are afraid of the effects of alcohol, drugs, etc. then stay away from them and do not be at "the wrong place at the wrong time." It is really that simple.
Second, if a restaurant chooses to be smoke-free I am fine with it (I am not a smoker.) If a restaurant chooses to cater solely to smokers, I most likely will not eat there. However, I believe that people should have the right to make that decision. If you don't, there are plenty of countries in the world whose foundation is not based on personal liberty.
