I got a letter in the mail from the Veterans Administration today. Enclosed was a letter informing me that President Obama had authorized a one-time payment of $250 (less taxes, of course) to all Veterans currently recieving disability benefits.

My question is what good does this really do for anyone? A check for approximately 212 dollars and some change, while it might buy some beer and groceries, isn't a lot of money. When you multiply that by the estimated 2.5 million disabled vets recieving disability it turns into a large chunk of money, that is essentially being wasted.

So what do you all think? Is this money being wasted? Personally, it reeks of pandering for votes to me.

But you're a Veteran, right? In keeping with the public's misconception that you're either a backwoods redneck or simply a high school dropout... that's a lot of money!

Right?

Now, if only the VA would stop dragging it's feet I could get in on that jackpot.

I don't have the letter sitting in front of me, but I believe it was part of the stimulus. Maybe I should scan the letter and post it so you can read it. Again, I absolutely amazed at the amount of money this signifies for what is essentially beer money...

I would say the extra 200 bucks is used for groceries, etc...nothing that will have a positive economic effect of much measure.

Nor did I, nor did I.

My only point was that both sides play that game.
I'm not arguing the second point. I'm arguing that such blatant pandering by an utter pacifist makes me want to puke.

His greatest strength is vote gathering and he continues to do it, frighteningly well. His policies should be an utter abomination in this country, yet people continue to act like he has something to offer this country.

Heard a comment from someone the other day that, for me, encapsulated the entire situation.

The reason that Obama is so successful a politician is that people believe he is genuinely concerned about them and wants to work hard to make people's lives better.

And then today I heard Boortz say that Obama is the single greatest threat to the Constitution and the ideals set for the country 235 years ago. And Beck say that we are now "officially" worse than France.

That will never be true. No one will ever pass Woodrow Wilson!

Similar to Bush's stimulus checks and Obama's payroll withholding scheme from earlier this year...

Yes. It's all insulting to the American voter's intelligence. Unfortunately it seems for 90 % (democrat and republican) of those voters, the insult is justified, given their apparent lack of intellectual fortitude in their reactions to these bribes.

what about the postage for the millions of letters mailed out. such a waste. I mean do you really need a letter saying that the government is going to give you some of your money back? why not just put the letter in with the check? the stupidity never ceases.

by the way the timing of the letter around Memorial day is a blatantly obvious pandering attempt. But, otoh if I were going to find a group to give some money to it would definitely be veterans. I sound kind of bi -polar today.

It's not that the government is giving me my money back. It's the fact that there is going to be 625 million of the taxpayers dollars spent on Natural Light and Stouffers frozen lasagna. I know that's what I am spending mine on...
