GQ article on why Peyton is the GOAT

The comments below are hilarious! Lots of hate. Must be the Alabama "Camo of the year designs" issue.
The argument is dull. ANYONE who has ever played football at a high enough level understands exactly what it takes to be a "good" QB. What Peyton has done is "Another Level Great" which will not be seen again in my lifetime.
The bar he has set is ridiculously high.
Brett Farve??? Wow.

GOAT arguments are silly and futile...somewhere out there, a YA Tittle fan puts in his claim and probably has a valid argument...I'm a Peyton guy but if a Brady or Montana or Griese guy wants to raise a flag...have at it...I'm enjoying these last years of greatness

The perception of Manning's career will change dramatically if he can get another ring this year. BTW, how many Super Bowls has Brady won post spy gate?

Brady had a darn good defense during his SB winning seasons. Once he lost Bruschi and Rodney Harrison they we not as dominant of a team. And everyone has heard the saying that "defense wins championship," with which I agree. Sooo now that doesn't apply? It annoys me to hear people put a single entire game on the shoulders of one player.

That's like blaming a game on the pitcher because he gave up a run in the 7th inning and they lost 1-0. Never mind that his team didn't score, it was the pitcher's for giving up the run.

While some elements of Manning's play can be debated vs others - there is no controversy in the statement that he has the most field awareness of any quarterback ever to play the game - and maybe any player ever to play the game. Peyton's near zen-like composure is more indicative of playing football in the Matrix, where he can see the actual code that underlies the exterior display.

Brady has been to 5 Super Bowls. He's doing okay for himself. Spygate helped, I'm sure, but that had nothing to do with the two he lost. Miracle plays and tough defense is what the Giants used to beat them.

Hopefully Peyton can get another ring this season to quiet the ring discussion.

Well said....at times he appears to be playing a entirely different game than everyone else....

I mean its even obvious to me what he's going to do so you know his opponent knows exactly whats coming yet helpless to stop it...

Those arguments as well as all the other stuff people argue about on sports forums are part of being passionate sports fans. Or do you think arguing and obsessing about high school recruits and assistant coaches is less silly and futile?

There's only like 6 other threads going about this already.

Sounds about right - one for each of the major records Peyton broke this year. Given this is a Vols football forum its amazing someone could actually have a problem with that. Or perhaps we should instead start another 6 new threads about how much all of our former coaches sucked? Would that be more enjoyable to read?

There's a big difference between projecting how a high school recruit will do at the next level and which great QB is a clear cut #1...so no?...or yes?...when answering one of your questions, all I usually have to say is Dooley and wait for the cartoon violence :)

Terry Bradshaw has four Super Bowl rings, that doesn't make him the best of all time. One of 'em though. :ermm:

Brady really has 3 - 2 = 1 SB:
- Spygate (-1) win over St. Louis
- Tuckgate (-1) win over Oakland
