Grant Williams getting paid

At 12 million a year I'm surprised the Celtics didn't resign him. Awesome for Grant, dude is living the dream.

They want to but the problem is they got too much $ tied up in other players. Porzingis is a big gamble. They are committed to something like $140m next year and they still gotta add Jaylen Brown's supermax contract.

Supposedly they only offered him an $8.4 million “qualifying offer”, whatever that means. Good for Grant getting $54 million over 4 years. Celtic fans can pound sand. They’re just mad because management traded one of their fan favorites, Marcus Smart.

Damn. Celtics fans being real assholes in the comments.

Ehhhh, it's not that bad. Alot of Celtic fans are disappointed they couldn't keep him. It's a far cry from when they drafted him and a lot of fans were upset. His rookie year didn't do him.any favors as well.

But once he developed his 3 ball, he turned into a really solid role player. The Celtics message board even have an appreciation thread for him.

I believe the qualifying offer is the minimum they can offer while retaining the right to match any offer another team makes since he was a restricted free agent. In the end, it’s a sign and trade so Boston gets something in exchange for the asset.

This Dallas Mavs fan is ecstatic!

To answer Vol49er, no state income tax here in Texas, but the property taxes are high.

We did the math on the tradeoff in the NBA forum and you definitely save a lot when your salary is in the tens of millions. Even if you got a $15m home, it's not even close.

NBA players tend to move around a bunch. May not be a smart move to buy a home when you can be shipped off elsewhere at a moment’s notice. These guys might prefer to buy in their “forever” location and rent in their current team location or just wait to buy when their playing days end.

"Williams ended up with $54 million over four years, fully guaranteed per league sources. It’s the contract he wanted last year during preseason extension talks, but the Celtics only offered $48 million guaranteed with some incentives. He could have taken that deal, avoided the risk and felt secure knowing he was making millions. But he thought there was more out there and bet on himself. “In Boston, it’s really like $48 million with the millionaire’s tax, so $54 million in Dallas is really like $58 million in Boston and $63 million in L.A. "

Really happy for Grant. I know it’s not the amount he wanted before the season started, but that’s still really good money. Hope he enjoys Dallas.
Hopefully his role will grow. Still disappointed Mazulla used him so little. Ime got the
I just meant going with a different team might mean less resistance to a starting role. But I admittedly don't know much about the NBA anymore.
it will hopefully be a better situation for him. When Ime was the head coach he was used much more efficiently than with Mazulla. Mazulla’s small ball lineup was unsuccessful and put the C’s in two separate holes in the playoffs unless they shot lights out. Grant does so much to help out that doesn’t show up in the stats. People forget how useful he was the previous playoffs guarding the likes of Giannis and other key players.

That amount in Texas is worth much more than that amount in the People's Republic of Taxachussetts, where he would be robbed of an extra 10-12% or so off the top.
