I'm interested to see how things go in Dallas.
Two very heavy ball dominant PG's.
Hopefully they give Grant the opportunity to do more than corner camp.
He'll have critical moments to come up big for the Mavericks. Otherwise, between Luka and Kyrie there won't be long stretches where he can contribute OFFENSIVELY. If Grant plays intense, shut down defense, he will be on the court most of the time. His offensive stats may go down a bit. Regardless, he might spend more time on the court because of his defense and willingness to augment offensivelyHe is immediately one of Dallas' better defensive players and many talking heads are predicting he will start. Regardless, I think he is a good fit in Dallas and will see the floor a lot more than Boston. Offensively, he is an upgrade as a 3 pt shooter over most of their roster last year and can play well (sets good screens and improves spacing) alongside Luka & Kyrie.
Guess I have to figure out how to root for a team with Kyrie now
Adding Williams, and potentially Thybulle, will upgrade the Mavericks' leaky defense. Having averaged 27.3 MPG during Boston's run to the 2022 NBA Finals, Williams has proven his defensive bona fides at the highest levels. Last season saw him spend more time at small forward as part of a deep Celtics frontcourt, adding to his defensive versatility.
I particularly like Williams' fit alongside either Thybulle or Josh Green, two below-average shooters for wings. At times, Dallas coach Jason Kidd can essentially invert his forwards on offense, with Williams playing more of the classic wing role spacing on the perimeter (he's a career 38% 3-point shooter who's boosted that to 43% in the playoffs) while Green and Thybulle spend more time cutting and even screening at times for Irving and Luka Doncic in pick-and-rolls.
