Great article on Dobbs

There have been a ton of freshman who have came in and played better than Dobbs did this year.

Name 3.... And BTW, Redshirt freshmen don't count. An extra year in any program , especially for a QB is huge. Dobbs was a TRUE freshman playing on a team with very few offensive playmakers. He did an admirable job considering the circumstances. For those of us old enough to remember, A future Hall of Fame QB named Peyton Manning struggled as a true freshman as well, with a lot more talent surrounding him!

agree
plus our vaunted offensive line sure didn't help him much. They didn't play like the best line in the SEC.

so people need to cut this kid a little slack.

Furthermore, Butch has emphasized that neither Josh nor Riley Ferguson had the benefit of being early enrollees.

High School, Fall camp, then Alabama, Auburn, Mizzou, etc.
Wow, just imagine how great a true freshman would have to be to pull any of those games off by himself without receivers that can hold on to the ball and a Oline that gave a damn.

Who do u know didn't read the article and why would u feel like that's case??

I know if a competent person would have read the article they would say thanks for sharing and not think this is a thread to discuss how Dobbs played as a freshman.

We all know who Josh Dobbs is because of football, not academics. And every other player for that matter. Notice this is in the football forum, not the engineer forum.

Jerk type response sort of....I think you meant it to be at least. It's Christmas....more to life than football during this time of year my friend.

I'm an engineering major and I couldn't do his routine. My routine is to wake up go to class, study, eat, work 20 hours a week, and sleep. I know football takes up alot of his time so, idk how he keeps a 4.0

I think he's just on a level above most students his age in terms of being mature, studious, and as he says in the article, "the key is to have great time management skills." His parents should be praised for helping him establish such a wonderful work ethic and ability to prioritize and manage his time.

If you can help a child learn to do that early and reinforce it in middle and high school, they'll be set for life. We all think time management is an innate skill that you either have or don't but it really is something learned by watching and doing early one and later establishing routines for yourself. It's harder to learn later on in life but once you get it down it's easy.

It also helps to really love what you're doing and obviously he loves the core subjects and he loves football. That makes practicing and studying feel very easy and fun instead of just drudgery you are required to go through in order to get to the stuff you really like (e.g. playing and aerospace engineering).

An academic all American doesn't equate to an all SEC QB. What he showed this year is he is not going to be an all SEC QB, freshman or not.

The juvenile fanboyism around here is getting old fast. It's also about as productive as a bunch of ten year old gamers debating xbox vs. playstation vs. wii.

The immaturity around here is quite obvious.

This is a very smart kid that also set the passing records for his state 2 years in a row and was highly recruited by some top teams including Stanford where brains helps make a good football team.

It's pathetic how the Losers around here that never played football expect a true freshman to make a big splash especially at the QB position which is the toughest position on the team.

Many of you infantile blowhards around here need to grow up, shup up or vanish off of VN forever and maybe all 3.

By the time he graduates this kid could become a All American that sets every record for a QB in UT history and makes Peyton look like a rookie.

Nobody knows for certain but 2 things are certain...

1...He has the intelligence to do great things.

2...He has the time management skills and work ethic to do great things.

That's 2 great steps far ahead of most of the juvenile idiots blasting him around here that are really sad people.

Instead of bashing on a really good kid that agreed to play football for our Vols you should simply say THANK YOU to him for coming to the hill and busting his butt to try and entertain you Losers!

He might turn out to be a good QB here or somewhere else, but has shown nothing on the field to be labeled "special".

Other than scoring a touchdown on #1 ranked Alabama in his first start, in their house, in front of 100k at the stadium and millions viewing on TV at 18 years old...Yeah, I'd say your right.

Dobbs wasn't an EE was he? New offensive system, best weapon was a true freshman WR, god awful schedule. I mean the kid didn't play close to great or what we should want but let's not pretend he had the deck stacked in his favor.

I understand what you are saying, but let's be honest, this is a football forum. We all know Dobbs is smart but if he didn't play football we would have no clue who he is.

Great article. I don't even care how his football career turns out. He's going to do great in life and just having guys like that in the program is invaluable.
