Great cover songs

I've always liked Cyndi's version, but Celine has an amazing voice and that song is well suited to it.

gotta admit though, Celine is a woman and sounds like a woman when she sings, unlike that pansy who sings for Coheed and Cambria.

Covers that were more popular than the original. Original band in ():

Black Magic Woman - Santana (Fleetwood Mac)

Cocaine and After Midnight - Eric Clapton (JJ Cale)

Blinded by the Light - Mannfred Mann's Earth Band (Bruce Springsteen)

The Beast in Me - Johnny Cash (Nick Lowe)

Others?

Bob Dylan has had more #1 hits by others cover his songs than himself. I's say two of the most known are GnR performing Knocking on Heavens Door and Jimmy Hendrix's take on All Along the Watchtower.

One of my favorite covers is Whiskeytown - A Song For You (Gram Parsons)

Good list, although it's spelled Jimi... I also really like that Whiskeytown song, although I think Gram Parsons actually originally covered it from Leon Russell. Whiskeytown also does a really good job with "I Still Miss Someone" (Johnny Cash).

I'll add Johnny Cash's version of "Sunday Morning Coming Down" (Kris Kristofferson).

His cover of Rusty Cage by Soundgarden is good as well. Neither of those are as good as the originals tho.

didn't NIN's lead singer say that he'd never perform it again and that "hurt" was forever Cash's?

I think Cash's version of Hurt was better. It was raw, something about Cash's age and history made that song fit the moment and time. Maybe I'm alone in this thinking but Cash nailed it in his version.

Did something crawl up you and die? Claudio Sanchez is more man than you could ever wish to be. What he does is great, if you don't like it then you don't need to say crap like that. Don't compare him to a person that plays in Vegas for the rest of her life. Claudio is original and at the top of his genre. Maybe you should sit down and ACTUALLY LISTEN TO THEM!

Best cover ever has to be Cash's cover of NIN's "Hurt."

Lenny Kravitz's version of American Woman, but I heard it like 5 million times back then and got a little tired of it.

I like George Harrison's Got My Mind Set On You; don't know who originally sung it. Another good one is Jack Johnson playing My Doorbell by the White Stripes.

Johnny Cash cover of "Hurt" is IMO better than the original. Also like his cover of "I'm so Lonesome I Could Cry" on the same CD.
