I just Google'd Best university athletic facilities and read several articles. No mention of Tennessee anywhere. I think we have nice facilities, but we probably do not understand the true nature of what we are up against with regard to recruiting the best players and coaches. We are good, but I suspect we think we are bigger/better/more respected/more famous than we really are. This is more evidence that Tennessee fans, while wonderful in many respects, are often considered deluded.

Tennessee didn't even make the top-20 in this list, although several other SEC schools did:

UT is just putting on the finishing touches. Ut's facilities will be on par with any in the country.
And keep in mind, 'best' is subjective. Oregon has some very over the top stuff that has nothing to do with football. This is the line I've been hearing for over two decades now. Point being, our facilities have always been held up to me as elite, premiere or among-the-best. Yet as I think about it, I only ever heard that from Vols fans. If they had been that good all this time, one would think we would see more mention of it. And while some of the other schools mentioned in these articles just put "the finishing touches" on their brand-new facilities, some mentioned were decades old.
Don't get me wrong. I know we have killer facilities. There is nothing wrong with being ranked 21st on such a list (no matter how meaningless that list). But I hear it said here and other places that UT facilities are not 21st but rather number one. I want us to be the best. I want us to have great facilities. But I often wonder if we really have a grip on reality here.
I'm not talking about Neyland; we all know where the stadium ranks.
