Great Recruiting Info

I would rather have Gerald Jones over Tate any day of the week. Tate looks good but he hasn't seen any SEC type defenses. When ND played USC the only team with a defense even close to SEC caliber Tate had 2 catches for 15 yards. Don't get me wrong I wish we could have gotten Tate but I also don't think he was our biggest miss in state.

you are kidding?

Harrison started and played more than 80% of the snaps of every game that I watched. Bowman, Cooper, Oher, Tate and Turner would've kept CPF "working like heck" for a long time.

We're not missing out on Harrison Smith. ND's talent just sucks that bad to let him play that many minutes as a sophomore... Tate of course... could've used him.

Tate was from my hometown and my sister graduated with him. That being said, I don't believe he was as big a recruit as Jones would have been.

I remember the speculation from other JP2 people being that he would be a decent receiver, but that he didn't have enough speed for his size. Well he has dispelled that.

Also, Tennessee didn't have a chance with him. He basically was waiting and hoping Notre Dame would offer him. He snatched it up waayyy fast.

He lacked major interest because he showed signs of being a non-qualifier.

The way i understand it from people who were close to that situation they thought he was too slow and not really big enough to play LB and they chose Daniel Brooks over him.

Yeah I think if Jones would have been from Tennessee he would have been a hot comodity in the state. Tate is definitely a playmaker but I don't think he is the athlete Jones is. You put Tate on our team last year in the SEC and I think he would have had a very hard time putting up the numbers he did at ND. Either way both players are very exciting and fun to watch.

Yeah, I think Jones would have excelled much more at Notre Dame while the ball wouldn't have made it to Tate at UT with the QB carousel. I would agree with you that Tate is the better WR at this point while Jones is the better athlete. And they are both exciting. If you watch some Tate highlights on Youtube he is phenomenal at winning the jump ball and playing the ball in the air.

"I wish we would have went after Curt Phillips last year."

Chavisut...I went to Sull.South and watch Phillips play all 3 years he started and I can say, without a doubt, that this kid will be a star whenever Wisconsin gets their head out of their arse. They have the same problem that we had with CPF and not playing youngsters. Phillips is a dual-threat qb but he has great accuracy to go along with a rocket arm...and that's NO exaggeration...talent-wise he's as good if not better than any qb on UT's roster even if you made him a drop-back guy. We definitely missed out on a player...but UT has NEVER recruited the Tri-cities area...the biggest miss on a TN recruit ever was a guy from Johnson City that you might have heard of....Steve Spurrier...and it's bit us in the behind ever since.

I think we'll always have trouble recruiting Memphis because Oxford is like an hour and half from there and a total of 6 SEC schools are a closer drive than Knoxville. I mean for a kid's family to drive 5 1/2 hours each way is a pretty long drive for every home game. I know our facilities destroy Ole Miss' facilities but for kids who want to be close to home, Knoxville is a hard sell. Even Tuscaloosa is 160 miles closer to the bluff city than Knoxville.
