I was very impressed with the AJs. Surprised Beam didn't get the Friday night nod though.
I know last season some of the pitchers were better throwing on certain days. Once we found our best pitcher to open up the series we played way better every day.

I don’t remember where I was the night before, but was at the game. I spent so much time on the strip, my parents had a store there. I put an orange dot on their building.

I was 14.
I guess I forgot to post the building.

Around 72.

That’s what I thought…I showed my 16 year old that picture…I said, that’s the Cumberland Ave. Strip…he said where’s that…I said that’s where Mellow Mushroom is ….lol, he said Nooooo Waaaaaaaay.

Truth is I grew up here, sold programs etc…yadda Yadda YADDA…AND, I don’t recognize it now. I thought…hmmm, I’m not sure why I thought it, but I thought it would be prettier when it was all completed. To each their own I guess.

Maybe when they get all the apartments and new businesses done it will look really nice.

Well, I spent lots of time there in my life even though I never went to school there. But around ‘74 I sold programs during FB season, which was awesome because I could watch at least the second half…later I would go on to live on Lake Ave. Laurel Ave. and above the Kinkos(if it’s still there). I also lived on 12th, might as well have lived on White.

Back to the programs…while we’re talking about change…my dad pulls right down from that bookstore where I guess the student center is now…

He says, get out, walk down this street…go to gate 17 and ask for Charlie….I said , what?
He said , he’s expecting you, he’ll tell you what to do….then he said, hustle! He meant hurry on, but Charlie had something else in mind. Maybe that’s what side hustle means now, but it didn’t take 5 minutes to figure it out. Location and be loud, make change, and hustle yer butt up those ramps. I was 8.

GBO!!!

That is a great story with your dad.

By the way, the Kinko’s building was the building my parents had their store. It was 3 floors. First floor was where they sold leather jackets, second floor was for alterations and third was mostly storage.

1974 I may have bought programs from you. At 10 years old I was allowed to invite a friend and go to the games. Didn’t seem weird at all being that young and being allowed to be unsupervised.

Well by golly, we’re practically family! Yeah can you imagine dropping off your kid and leaving him NOW. We might get arrested!!!

And it was way, way, worse then. No clear bags, the bottles of whiskey, smoking cigarettes, pipes, cigars and other stuff, fights…and never once, did I think twice. It was fun…but now there’s no way I’d drop my kid off like that…different time.
