Copy and Paste special, so flame away if you feel it's necessary.

'Want to relay another great story about Coach Martin.
One of his favorite restaurants is located a small West
Tennessee airport. On a recruiting trip a month or so
ago, he goes into the restaurant to eat breakfast. A
trustee from the local prison was on a work detail
there. Coach Martin asks the man to join him for
breakfast, saying he doesn't like to eat alone. After
calling the trustee's supervisor and getting things
ok'd, Coach Martin bought the man breakfast and spent
close to an hour talking with him. How many people are
willing to do that, let alone the head coach of an SEC
program? Can't see Calipari, Coach K, or dozens of
other D1 coaches doing that. We are fortunate to have a
man of Coach Martin's caliber running our basketball
program!

The people that run the "small west Tennessee airport restaurant" love the guy.

Join the crowd.

Too bad he's finished after this year!

He's a super guy. This story along with the many, many other we've heard make me proud of our bball coach.

Hart needs to pay to keep this guy around. CCM seems to have a collection of winning philosophies.

Ainge shared this one on the radio, a caller shared a story about Dooley and Aline responded with this...

He knew some people who came up for a volleyball clinic or something at TBA. Well they got lost looking for it, or inside it, and ended up in Pratt pavilion. A guy comes up and asks if he could help them, they said they were looking for the volleyball clinic. Instead of pointing or telling them where to go, he walked them there and when they got inside TBA held out his hand and introduced himself as Cuonzo Martin, the head coach of the men's basketball team.

Thought that was also kind of cool, very proud he's our coach.

I love coach martin and am glad he seems like a great guy but my dad went on a missionary trip to Russia and helped remodel a run down hospital....he also helps build ramps for handicap/elderly that can't afford it on some weekends....the point being I don't want my dad being our basketball coach.

The only thing I care about is Zo winning basketball games and not doing anything to tarnish our university or getting us on probation.

Your dad sounds like a great man.

I think the point the OP and others try to make is that you rarely find a good D1 coach these days who is also a good guy.

That's a bit short sighted. I would also hope our coach turns out good men, great representatives of the University of Tennesee and spends what little free time he has being an ambassador for our State, our college and our athletic program. Pat Summitt did this for the women's program. I like that Cuonzo Martin has brought it to the men's program.

Like volbeast said, if he's winning games and being ethical, he's doing all he needs to do. I'm not going to give him any kind of credit as a coach for having a meal with a stranger.
