Great Story On Counzo Martin!

Like volbeast said, if he's winning games and being ethical, he's doing all he needs to do. I'm not going to give him any kind of credit as a coach for having a meal with a stranger.

That surprises me coming from you...there's a reason guys like jarnell, Tobias, and hubbs will return every year and help coach Martin in recruiting.

CCM still gets phone calls all the time from big time guys from purdue and MSU that he turned out because of the life lessons and maturity he taught them.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I really appreciate and welcome the fact that he's very "pat summit ish" as someone else touched on.

Here's a comparison I'll make, and I can make this from living there...Calhoun at UCONN, the guy won, no debating that, but he was hated by his players and former players never returned there, or praised they guy, he was very disliked and known as a prick in the community. Because of this, you had a lot of people who flat out just didn't like the guy....I'd much rather have a CCM type of guy who is worried about more than just basketball.

Maybe I'm too coach carterish, but I love the family vibe that Zo brings.

Combine these stories with a coach that makes the tournament and wins big games, you gotta winner.

Combine these stories with a coach that loses to Austin Peay and MTSU and has never been to the NCCA tourney, you got a coach that buys lunches, offers tour guide services, and teaches tie knotting classes.

As for the comment that someone would rather have Martin type guy than a Calhoun type guy - what?!?

Talk about not getting the point.

I wouldn't trade coach Martin for Calhoun until he wins like Calhoun.....Calhoun recruited just fine without help from former players....They may not have liked the man but they did respect him and played their rear ends off for him. I would prefer him to be a more like able person but that doesn't over take winning and it's not even close.

Definitely not the point I was trying to make, simply saying having a coach with Martin's attitude is something I like. In other words...if Zo can come close to winning like Calhoun...I'd take Zo over Calhoun, because of that attitude and way he represents the school. I was in no way trying to say CCM is a better coach than Calhoun r anything close to that, not my point I was making at all.

What's the saying? The true character of a person is how he acts when no one is looking? Martin will win ball games. No question about it. But I'm with BTO and all who love this attitude he shows, both when the camera is on and off. If I was a recruit (or parent of one) that was serious about becoming the best player and person I could be, there's no way I would choose Calhoun over Martin. But, I guess in today's world, being a good person isn't expected as long as we are entertained and win games.
