Mods, now that Bruce Pearl works for Auburn University, shouldn't all threads focusing on him without direct and current reference to UT basketball be moved to the Around the NCAA forum? Just asking. I thought this forum was about Things pertinent to UT basketball.

You have an Oklahoma Sooners icon listed before your TN icon on your fan symbols. I think that's the bigger crime here, being on VolNation and all.

Pearl can be talked about in the UT basketball forum with context to UT. Furthermore, he did so much for our program and loves UT, so there is no reason for the animosity.

Pearl put UT BB on the map. Making the NCAA tourney was a given. Made #1 in nation one week. Beat #1 teams. Routinely filled TBA. The Vols were constantly in the ESPN conversations. We were proud of our team.

Now we have Cuonzo and are swimming in mediocrity. He has a chance tonight to turn things around, but does anyone really believe that he will? I want him to succeed so bad that it hurts. But I won't hold my breath.

We can be an elite program with the facilities and fans who would fill TBA. There is no excuse or reason why we shouldn't except the higher ups won't do what is necessary to get there. GBO. Beat Iowa!!!!!!!!!!!!

from the article:

Later, Pearl told everyone not to mention anything about the party. It was a dumb rule, he figured. This wasn't blatant cheating. He handed out hamburgers, not bags of cash. Who cares, right?

that is an absolute lie. He knew it was an issue since he got busted for it at UWM

Don't count out Pearl. He hired Tony Jones who has major recruiting ties to the Atlanta area. This hire will hurt UGA more than anybody, although it could hurt Tennessee and Bama too. I'm assuming Stephen Pearl has ties to Tennessee recruits. Give Pearl 2-3 years. It's not happening in year 1 after losing the top scorer and 3 starters.

Pearl really did well recruiting available transfers too. Look for him to do the same at AU.

I suppose as long as Martin is getting hammered for under achieving Bruce should get a little of the action as well. Plus I've never seen a team actually quit like that in a tournament game before. It was impressively embarrasing.

The scandal eventually dragged that team down. It was a constant distraction. Then the night before the tourney Hamilton essentially hints on Nashville radio that Bruce was going to get canned at the end of the year.

Bruce going to Auburn was the smartest and best move he could have ever made. Do you people not realize that Bruce just got the lead investigator against him to now pronounce him trustworthy and respectable. There are not 6 people on the face of the earth that could give Bruce instant credibility and Bruce got one. Bruce now has his Rights back. The coaching door is now wide open! Genius, pure genius.

The TV exposure (espn) did BP a world of good, the dude is very good at self promotion or anything else that requires promotion. :twocents:

Bruce's problem has always been his 'Above the Rules' ego.
The question now is will he get to coach his first game in November or will he get caught lunching in the back corner of AppleBees with a recruit before Aug 23.
I'll give him a 50-50.

This is definitely something to watch for. Pearl got terribly, terribly lucky walking into a situation with Chris Lofton (one of the best shooters college basketball will ever see) and JuJuan Smith (who was just about as effective as Lofton, albeit with a slightly different style). Those two guards bailed UT out of a lot of dead possessions, and their success helped propel UT into the national picture in that first year (and Pearl rode the momentum masterfully into recruiting success). I'm not sure that lightning will strike twice, but we'll see. Personally, I hope it doesn't. It'll only make the miserable spot we find ourselves in more miserable.

Many on here said the same thing about CBJ

Yep there has never been any Lane Kiffen threads after he was at USC.
