Fair enough, but it should be clearly noted that Neyland did some pretty incredible things, too. It's not like he just had some decent success. (Not saying you didn't know, but I just wanted to say it.)Fair enough. All I can say is that when Summitt wins, it's not because her bad team is better than other bad teams. It's because she gets the best players, pits them against the best teams, and coaches the hell out of them. She's fantastic at what she does, and because of her ability to coach and her impact on all women's athletics, she gets the nod over Neyland. Agree to disagree.
I was talking about Coach K over Smith. He does have double the national titles. At first I thought it was where the coaches were from, and was wondering if they were serious in taking Woody Hayes over Knight. Much harder to argue with Rockne.
Disagree. Without Neyland, who knows where Tennessee football would be?
And anyways, I think Neyland was just a better coach, anyways.
Summitt means more to women's basketball than Bryant does to football. That doesn't make her a better coach.Neyland is an all-time great, but Pat Summitt means a whole hell of a lot more to her sport than Neyland did for his.
I also think womens basketball is terrible, but it is what it is. Deal with it.

The Hulkster might have something to say about that.

If either have the notoriety of Pat Summitt, I could understand it. That, coupled with her appearance as a strict disciplinarian and consistent championships has to be the reasoning for her being on the list.
And as far as I know, Cal's rugby is club, not NCAA. I think the list would look very different if it weren't limited to basketball and football. Broyles wouldn't have won Arkansas.
