He should not be the first choice.

Some on VN want him because that is who Hatvol thinks will be hired. Not saying he couldn't do the job but we can do better.

Not defending Hat, I am a mouth breathing ameoba to what i term his walgreens obtained card carrying guru status, , but if you look closer you will find he (marshall) has good relationships/ties to Atlanta and obviously North Carolina, so could do well here. Plus he is interested. The Mack turn down should clue you in where we are at right now.

:ermm:nawwww! hes not a good hire for UT. Pearl loved tennessee and even the red neckish style of Pearl fit. Thats why people loved him. We need a little red neckish style.:birgits_giggle: Frank is the man.

Marshall would do a fantastic job. He's had success at every job (Winthrop and Wichita State). He may not be the glamorous choice, but he's likely one of the top-3 candidates.

If we don't get Frank (or an even crazier big name), he's out best bet.

I would like someone to explain this also.

He was good enough in the past, but he wasn't taken seriously because he was coaching in the Big South. Kinda like how most people aren't taking Byrd seriously because he's in the A-sun.

But now Marshall is winning in a bigger league, and suddenly there's more interest.

Let's see, since Marshall was last considered for a job at UT (2005) he has

- Has won his conference tournament (2005, 2006, 2007)
- Been in post season play 5 of 7 years - going 2 deep in the NCAA once and losing to #2, #2, #3 seed teams. Currently in the final 4 of the NIT.
- Has turned a tradition-rich WSU program that had fallen to mediocrity back to a winning program

I'd say Gregg Marshall has earned another interview with UT and I hope he gets the job.

Agree. But if Hubbs is right, I think Marshall is out.
