His opening speech is well worth listening you. You can find it on YouTube. Towards the end he gets into NIL and gambling.

Sankey is Saban’s puppet

Sankey is a money puppet. Conference expansion/realignment is a freakin' joke. The SEC isn't a conference anymore--in any practical sense--just an agglomeration of schools created to further fatten up the TV money teet. Yet another example of American excess. Everything always bigger, bigger, bigger. More games, more playoff teams....classic excess in pursuit of money, money, money.

Just the fact they’re tied to this ESPN contract for like 15 yrs despite adding Texas & OU and going to more than 8 games says he’s not that smart.

Up front it seems like a good idea to lock in long term money, but ask Clemson how that ACC deal is working out for them. Too much change has happened and I think more will happen for a conference to go out more than about 5 years on a TV deal. Oklahoma and texas are going to make tons more than they would have in the Big12, if it all comes true.

It's hard for schools like OU, texas, etc., who actually have solid brands that have won something over the years, to watch the Vandy's, Missouri's, etc. make the kind of cash they are going to make. OU/tx believed that they are worth at least as much as every school in the SEC, though they might fudge a little on Alabama and Georgia right now. The great thing is that we are going to actually get to see if what they think is true, is true.

Texas already thinks they are worth more. They bring that into the SEC. The ACC situation will be interesting as I think it might lead to the breakup of some of these conferences into 1 super conference (for TV purposes only) but they’ll play others outside. Conference championships are being devalued every day. It’s only about the top 12 (soon 16) playoff slots

I think I'll pass on Stinky. He is nothing but a tool. That 2020 Fiasco proved that; (forcing compliance). No credibility now. He is like all the Lawyers; scared to death of a Lawsuit. Welp, He may just get one, or 100 before it's over.

Why do people deliberately misspell names on message boards? Greg SANKEY is the most respected conference commissioner in college sports.

I’d say he’s probably one of the most powerful people in sports. People can say a lot of things about him, but I remember most were singing his praises when he showed up to the NCAA hearings a few months ago on our behalf . All these people saying that he caved because Saban didn’t want 9 games don’t know what the hell they’re talking about either. It was a vote that decides it, not the commissioner. I personally think he’s doing a very good job of navigating the conference through the expansion and realignment that’s taking place. Sankey has done a good job of causing others to react and not the other way around.

I think when the SEC adds a 9th conference game the payout each year will go up. If more teams are added the contract will go up. Whatever their other issues the sec has a tv contract with the company that is synonymous with sports broadcasting. The natural advertisement will make up some difference in tv payout money. Also, the deal is actually inked. Unlike the Big 10s tv deal.

Sankey did a great job saving the 2020 season and he is very powerful now. Every SEC commissioner before him since ‘92 has been one of the most powerful if not THE, in college sports.

I do think the noose he has the SEC in with the current TV contract has damaged him somewhat. Certainly not enough for any threat of him losing his job. It doesn’t make sense for the SEC to add a 9th game without any additional money. Those 9 additional losses will most likely cost the SeC a bowl appearance or 2 each season and could cost a CFP spot which means LESS money overall. That along with “buyouts” of some non con games is why other schools voted against the 9 game season.

How long before we hear one side (probably the SEC) say this

I haven’t read the contract but I did read that ESPN said they own SEC Tv rights until 2035 or something and it doesn’t matter to them if it’s 8 games or 9, they’re paying the amount in the contract & nothing more. ESPN is under pressure from Disney to become “self sustaining” and money is tight.

Additional money to the schools will come from the expanded playoff format.
