Gruden Expectations

6 top 10 teams in the SEC right now

8-9 wins next year is not reasonable

I don't know about that. We played the top teams pretty well this year despite a sub-par defense. A few minor improvements and a morale boost with a better coach could easily put us in the top ranks again.

Wait until he loses to Oregon and Florida next season. Will the bloom be off the rose?

Only for the unreasonable "fans" who have no clue how coaching works.

Coaching is a process, it's not flipping a switch and instantly fixing things. No way we can expect to beat Oregon next year; that's just silly.

I don't see how he could ever reach the expectations that fans would place on him. I am certain 7 and 5 in the first year would be a huge disappointment. He would definitely have to win the SEC by the third year and the National title by year four or five. Out recruiting Alabama, LSU, Florida, and Georgia is not an easy thing to do. He'll have to do that to be successful to the expectations.

I think we can take uga and USCe at home next year. We almost beat both of them at their place. Auburn also looks very winnable, and we should beat Missouri and Kentucky as well. Vandy....well we have them in Neyland, and if the new coach is worth his salt, we will put them back where they belong.

Having said that, if as expected we lose Bray, Hunter and CP, it will be much tougher. Of the three, I have not given up on Bray yet.

Oregen, Florida and bammer look pretty tough. But even losing the juniors we should have a shot at every other game, assuming Murray goes pro and Lattimore is still out. IMO....

But 7-5 is also acceptable for a first year coach. Only for one year though!

If he were to come, I would wait to base our expectations on who stays and what recruits come in for next year. I would think a 10 win season in year three would be attainable.

Agree.

As for some of the other expectations above, I would be happy competing for the SEC by year 3 or 4. By which I mean, at least winning the division and having expectations almost every year of winning it. How it develops from there can be a year to year thing, but we should be one of the favorites to win the East at least most of the time. (3 out of 4 years?)

Gruden is not coming here.... If you listened to Mike and Mike this morning you would have gotten the hint from his statement.

I'm not saying he definitely IS coming, but to use his statement as proof that he isn't coming is naive. See: Saban, Meyer, Muschamp, etc. Denials of accepting a position that coaches know they're going to accept are par for the course.

There is simply nothing of import that can be taken from anything he said on M&M.

I consider the situation like when Majors came back to UT, Gruden would have a longer leash, instead of 3 years I think he would have 5 to 6 years, maybe longer as some were stating 8 year contract. I think he could bring in some top-flight recruits and maybe turn this around a whole lot faster, maybe 10 to 11 wins by year 2.
But me stating it reminds me of when Majors came back, I believe he had great recruiting classes but it took him 7 years before he won 9 games.....

We will see, GRUDEN GRUDEN
