If Ron has problems with the infatuation behind Gruden, he is being delusional. It's not irrational to see what a marketing boost it would be for someone with his name and brand. Sounds like Ron is a Ole Miss or Alabama fan.

Just heard that Jim Tressel has been contacted for head coaching position as a back up plan to Gruden!

Ron Higgins hates UT, with a passion, and I hate him! If he is saying this its huge, he has been begging God not to let this happen. I can promise you that!

I feel if this is true that Arkansas felt they had little shot but threw out a huge offer just to drive up what UT pays.

With that kind of deal - 60 mil for 8 yrs, if he blows and can't win, we are screwed for 2 decades.

On the orher hand, if he comes in and whips ass, we'll be set for decades! Still not buying in just yet, but folks are starting to make me believe it could actually happen....

Why wait until the 30th to announce?

May have something to do with the money he still receives from Tampa Bay after he was "fired" there in 2008. If he accepts a job somewhere before that date he loses a boatload of denero that he would otherwise be entitled to receive under the buyout agreement.

Can't see why the date would have any magic associated with otherwise.

I would rather have a good college coach. I don't think we will get him and if we do then he will not be here long.

No He got Ohio St in trouble and they still are in trouble. He played players when he knew he should of kept them out of the games. Including the bowl game. Do not want sweater vest here.

This post has merit. There is some serious negotiating going on right now and the Vols have the upper hand at this time. Gruden IS UT's next coach. Nov 30 is when the announcement is expected

not fair. you've only been here since August. if you're wrong, you could easily just create a new username and say bye-bye to Donvolson!

Well, hell, let's hire a Dooley again. That way, if we get caught in the situation where we're absolute crap again, it'll at least be a cheap escape.

Great logic.

Some of you need to be hosed down. UT is not going to give Gruden or anybody $60 million for 8 years, which would be 7.5 M a year. That would be $2 million more than Saban is getting--and he just got a raise and has won two titles. I suppose that we could, but it would be a massive gamble and almost certainly a bad move. If we offered $4 million a year, we could get a very good coach (in theory) and would be paying more than what 95 percent of coaches in America are paid. Hell, if we're prepared to offer more than $5 million, we should offer Belichick.
