Gruden to Texas? (Clay travis rumor)

It's reassuring to see that VN is not the only fan base that is completely absurd at times of a coaching change. I've read on other teams boards and his name gets floated there too. Makes me feel better about us. It's the little things in life that make be feel like a champion of life.

8/9 years since this man last coached
It ain't happening. Just like Jimmy Johnson he's got one of the sweetest gigs in all of football.

Gruden loves football, but not that much. He's ESPN's highest paid employee, any talk about him coming back is just stupid.

Travis also said James Franklin was almost Texas' coach and is acting like Penn St. has won the Big 10 championship.

Impossible...we were told by the local braintrust that Gruden would NEVER coach in college, and if he did he would suck.

He won't coach in college football. If he's dumb enough to walk away from his ESPN gig his sanity should immediately be questioned.

Why? If they offer him 8 mil a year why wouldn't he go? Even if he flops and is fired in four years he can go right back to ESPN.

If he wanted to coach again he would have done it by now in my opinion. He's had ample opportunities. He has consistently declined. Couple that with the money he's already getting and I don't see it ever happening. He's still very attached to the game via is Monday night gig and his QB camp and show, etc... and he doesn't have to deal with the BS of coaching. I don't see much upside and LOTs if downside. So why do it?

I say this every single time this comes up.

HE WILL NOT WALK INTO A COLLEGE HEAD COACHING JOB

When was the last time he went on a recruiting trip? How long will it take him to get 100% up to speed on the NCAA rule book? Who is he going to hire for his staff? How long has it been since he coached a down of competitive football?

He would be a horrible hire wherever he went. He is too far out of touch to have a chance at being successful.

The bs of coaching becomes no problem at all making 8 mil a year.

Like I said, I think the report is bs and Grudens agent is just doing his job once again.

I wouldn't. I would take my 6.1 million that I get for Monday night football, and working ~ 60 days a year vs 8mil and have to deal with everything a coach does, plus the damn boosters that think because they write a big check they should get a say how the program is run. that is a big problem everywhere, but especially Texas.

Why would his sanity be in question for wanting to coach again?

One could argue he is already "coaching" with all the stuff he's got going on. He is still VERY involved in the game at the college and pro level. And he doesn't have to deal with recruiting, kissing butt on BMDs, bat $&@" crazy fan bases, etc...

If he took a college job after all this time I'd question his sanity in a New York minute

Augghh! Gruden took a Tampa Bay team built by Tony Dungey, won a Super Bowl, then let that team fail miserably. I like Gruden as a commentator, but please... STOP the madness.

Agree with the bolded part 100%. Coaching turmoil is a chance for his agent to get his client (and thus the agent) paid. I don't think Saban will ever leave Bama. But that doesn't stop Sexton from using the threat to get more money. That is hos job after all.
