Gruden to Texas? (Clay travis rumor)

I wouldn't. I would take my 6.1 million that I get for Monday night football, and working ~ 60 days a year vs 8mil and have to deal with everything a coach does, plus the damn boosters that think because they write a big check they should get a say how the program is run. that is a big problem everywhere, but especially Texas.

LOL, how about those who do not donate a penny who want coaches fired, etc?

I hope Gruden takes the Texas job for two reasons. First, seeing him fall on his face would be enjoyable. Second, the sense of betrayal among those who salivated at the fantasy of him being the Vol coach. This would be cured by the inevitable fiasco to follow at that pile of crap the Texas narcissists call the greatest gig in America.

I say this every single time this comes up.

HE WILL NOT WALK INTO A COLLEGE HEAD COACHING JOB

When was the last time he went on a recruiting trip? How long will it take him to get 100% up to speed on the NCAA rule book? Who is he going to hire for his staff? How long has it been since he coached a down of competitive football?

He would be a horrible hire wherever he went. He is too far out of touch to have a chance at being successful.

no one ever remembers this.

The last time he went recruited he handed out pager numbers.

He won't coach in college football. If he's dumb enough to walk away from his ESPN gig his sanity should immediately be questioned.

NFL's ratings continue to plummet, ESPN is hemmoraging money/cutting staff and his new partner dry and boring.

wouldn't be surprised to see him back in coaching sooner or later.

Impossible...we were told by the local braintrust that Gruden would NEVER coach in college, and if he did he would suck.

If Gruden ends up coaching at the wrong UT, I will lose my mind.

I mean, I'll start posting again on Politics forum or something. Or hurl guano at Hambone like a loon.

Clay is just going to to get Vol fans fired up.

And a step further, even: I'd bet a dollar to a doughnut that Travis MADE UP this rumor just so he could get a reaction from Volunteer fans. He's a radio troll right up there on par with some of the internet trolls we have here.

Yep, because he pretty much made up the James Franklin to Texas rumors in 2013 and started Franklin to Tennessee rumors as well.

He is literally the only person I ever heard link Franklin to either of those jobs.

Augghh! Gruden took a Tampa Bay team built by Tony Dungey, won a Super Bowl, then let that team fail miserably. I like Gruden as a commentator, but please... STOP the madness.

Tony Dungy didn't build that team

You do realize Gruden "built" the team he played against in the Super Bowl, the Raiders, right?

He ain't coming back to coaching college imo. From what I remember of other times his name gets thrown around. His gig with Hooters. College presidents and boosters don't want their head man being tied to endorsement that is edgy when they deal with college kids. But more importantly what has already been discussed at nauseum. Why go deal with kids problems when you have an absolutely great job working a small portion of the year. College coaches are always on the clock. Kid gets arrested at bar at 3am guess who gets interrupted to deal with it. I'm guessing once his broadcast are done for MNF he sleeps very good.

I wouldn't be suprised if he tells his agent every time there's an opening get my name out there. And that's all fine if it keeps him relevant and gets him paid. But it was not ok for him to let his agent totally trash us for hoping he would take the job. Totally classless dirtbag move. Screw that guy. I hope he does eventually take a job and get exposed as a completely overrated idiot

Gruden makes 5 million a year to work about 20 weeks out of the year doing MNF, one bowl game, and his QB shows....that is one of the best jobs in America....why deal with crazy fan bases and boosters....he has already reached the top of coaching football by winning a SB...he is not going back to coaching

LOL. Yes he most certainly did. One of the main reasons Grudens Bucs won the SB is because he knew all of the Raiders offensive plays. Gruden was nothing special in the NFL.

For the most part you're right although I thought he did a pretty good job turning the Raiders into a contender. In Tampa Bay, however, following the Super Bowl win they were just a .500 team even though they always had a good defense and a very good DC (Monte). No team in the NFC sent more defensive players to the Pro Bowl than Tampa Bay from 2002-2008.

Also, I don't understand why so many people assume that someone with such little experience in the college game would be a great recruiter. Even including his time here as a GA, Gruden only spent 5 seasons in college and was never more than a WR coach and his last stint was at Pitt 25 years ago.
