Rex, you're a pastor, right? What does the Bible teach about hopelessness, pessimism, and knee-jerk negativity?
I admit readily that this year doesn't look good and may well end bad. But either way it won't be the end of the world or even of UT football. They'll play next fall. If CPF made good hires and Chavis gets himself together again, this weak class will probably be sandwiched between two great ones and all will be fine.
If he made bad hires then he probably will have to look for an honorable way to retire... and we'll get to see if recruiting to UT really IS as easy as some seem to think.
I'm with rex on this one...the most disheartening thing is we are losing battles we should be winning...
clemson? we're losing 4 star players to...clemson??? as in the acc clemson???
Good point. I'am sure that statement has been used often this recruiting season.I do think that the stability of this coaching staff is probably hurting UT's recruiting.
Fulmer's job is safe...but, no one would really be surprised to see him retire if the Vols won a championship next year. He's clearly nearing the end of his career at UT.
At LSU, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia, the coaches aren't anywhere near retiring...they're all younger and they're probably all telling recruits not to consider UT because Fulmer won't be there to see them graduate.
Now, I'm not saying I want to get rid of Fulmer and get a young coach here...that's not what I'm saying at all. I'm just positive that Richt, Meyer, Saban, and Miles plan on coaching longer than Fulmer...and I'm sure they make a point to emphasize that to UT recruits.
Yes, I can envision all of those coaches selling their recruits on the instability of our program and the fact Fulmer may not be there for two or three more years.I do think that the stability of this coaching staff is probably hurting UT's recruiting.
