You sure do have a lot of faith in our government not to keep opening that door wider and wider . That’s good I suppose , optimism is a good thing to have .

I don't believe that that bill takes any more rights away that weren't already lost. I think that it's a good idea to expand the tracing of and testing for this virus by providing more funds for workers.

I don't remember the government kicking down doors of those identified as HIV positive 35 years ago.

I don't remember govt shutting down churches, either.

We are in new territory right now. Everything is on the table.

This isn’t HIV and it isn’t 35 years ago . When was the last time the government forced people to shelter in their homes ? Like I said .. optimism is a good thing I guess .

Where in this bill, that funds the expansion of testing for and tracking a pandemic, is it forcing people to shelter in their homes?

We just lived through 20 years of our freedoms being eroded by legislation resulting from 9/11. We should be every bit as concerned that the same will happen as a result of legislation regarding this. That is all I'm saying.

HR 6666 has nothing to do with shutting down churches.
You missed the point. We are in different times now. Any assumptions you make based on the past are not relevant right now. Just like 9/11, this is a milestone in terms of what was possible or conceivable before and what was possible and conceivable afterwards.

I don't think that I've missed the point. Isn't the point of this thread HR 6666? If something else is enacted later restricting freedom, then it's separate legislation.

The Patriot Act was something else.

You are correct nowhere does is say they will force people to shelter , they are already doing that , this just gives the government to track you and determine what to do with you if you have a virus . Now back to my question did we pass laws about HIV like this or force citizens to shelter in their homes 35 years ago ?

The government certainly used resources to battle HIV. Since it spread in a different manner than COVID-19, it's really not comparable. But I'd bet that some municipalities moved to shut down gay bars... but more likely due to homophobia rather than legitimate public health concerns.

HR 6666 is federal funding intended to enable the suppression of a pandemic virus by gathering and processing data. I don't see the problem. Public health has been a government initiative for a very long time. I once had a co-worker come down with TB. Other employees and I went to the health department and they tested us for free.
