This is total myth. Willie Martinez has been an excellent DB coach (and recruiter) everywhere he has been. His only major failure was when he was made DC at UGA. Our CB play has gotten better since 2021 thanks to improved talent.
Yeah... I'm not buying, but not selling either. I have never been impressed with CWM, but I can also see that there was a serious lack of speed and talent in the secondary the last couple of seasons, so I gave him some grace. He's been doing it at a high level for a long time, so he must be doing something right.
One should be impressed with our DBs played the last three years when you consider the lack of talent we had back there. The coaching scheme we played called for a lot of man defense and the DLine not get pressure on the QB plus the LBs could not cove a bed with a blanket.
